Why do we care again? None of those nations actually committed to doing anything. In case you forgot, the Paris Climate Accord was an agreement where each nation set their own goals and there were no penalties for not meeting them and no benefits to meeting them early.

  3. The Army used to have an air force too. Just because you did something before doesn't mean you need to keep doing it. Provide a real justification for the Navy and Air force to be separate. The USMC doesn't have ships and they function fine even though they spend a boat load of time at sea aboard Navy vessels.

You aren't too hot on the idea of nation state sovereignty huh? Why would a nation state be compelled to do anything at all, especially something that is questionable at best because a group of other countries tries to impost itself on them? We aren't talking about moral issues here like crime enforcement, protecting intellectual property, extradition, etc. We are talking about what basically amounts to a giant test in production of an idea that hasn't been proven to actually accomplish anything. Plus there has been no opportunity or risk reward analysis done. In fact, any attempt to place rigor on the process of vetting a carbon credit market is met with vitriolic hatred and bigotry.

Fine. Just understand that people literally are dying because of the misappropriation of funds to fight this legal battle. Because if you don't understand that, you can do a proper cost benefit analysis. When you help people on death row, you hurt people who need food or medical care but can't afford it.

Fat is actually a needed macronutrient in your diet. You are confused because the sugar industry blamed fat for health problems that sugar is responsible for. The thing is you need to avoid saturated fats. Hemp does this well. Also the protein in milk is casein mostly and not that high quality. Eggs are also full of cholesterol. The only population milk is better for are children under the age of about 5 or 6.

Interesting side note. Prior to WW2, most ropes were made of hemp. That was unfortunate because they were not very reliable under dynamic load and broke quite often. The invention of Nylon was what made dynamic ropes safe to rely on.

The time delay function is garbage to be honest. A better implementation would be to freeze the whole screen upon hitting the shortcut and then allow cropping. Instead, if I want to capture a dropdown menu with snipping tool, I have to set time delay, go hover over the dropdown and hope I get there in time and don't accidentally move off of it before the timer counts down.

  21. Re:Snipping Tool on Windows 10 Is Finally Getting An Improved Screenshot Tool (theverge.com) · · Score: 1

The snipping tool is nice but it has it's drawbacks compared to say Snagit. One of those drawbacks is the inability to freeze the screen to take a screen capture. The alternative is to use the time delay function but that's hit and miss. With Snagit, one press of the print screen button freezes the screen and then you can crop the capture immediately before it is captured. No window pops up until after the capture is done. Another problem is that the Snipping tool doesn't keep a catalog of screen captures. If you forget to save one, you are SOL. Snagit keeps a catalog of all unsaved screen captures for a set period of time and that time is configurable. Want to keep 4 months of captures? No problem. Go back later and save it before the 4 months is up and you are good to go. The final issue is that the drawing features are garbage. Snagit allows shapes to be drawn that are filled or not and can be modified later because they sit on a different layer than the capture.

It's even hard for a scientist to basically put themselves out of a job. Money is a great motivating tool. The point here is scientists are all human and are all fallible and susceptible to bias. Science has never failed me but scientists have.

  24. I'll second that. At where I work, you get 10 days as soon as your probationary period is over which is usually 3-6 months after your hire date. More vacation comes with years in the company and not related to your pay grade. I personally think this is silly but that is how they operate. I think giving out vacation based on merit is actually the way to go.

  25. Re:Affordability on 100 Top Colleges Vow To Enroll More Low-Income Students (npr.org) · · Score: 1

The other issue is that traditional college is extremely wasteful. You have professors all over the country teaching cohorts of maybe a few hundred students each. This means some students get great professors who align with the rare qualities of being simultaneously experienced in their field and able to articulate that knowledge in a way students can learn about it, and some students get horrible professors who can barely speak English. There is a better way.

Take Khan academy as an example or any other MOOC course. What you do is you pay top dollar to attract the best in each field and have them record all their lectures which the stipulation that they have to update them yearly. Pay them enough that they can do this at least 50% of their time allotting some time to be active in their field at the same time. Then hire facilitators who can help out the tens of thousands who would take these courses. These lower paid personnel would offload the work of administering the actual classes. Then you get the best educational coursework and instruction at a cost efficient and time efficient manner.
