In the near-term, yes. In the longer term like 100 years from now, I suspect most microgrids will operate with no interconnection the main grid or only a tenuous one with a very small ability to draw current usually just to make up in dips in renewable generation or losing a large portion of a battery array.
You might not need a grid in the traditional sense in the future but you would want a microgrid. https://www.energy.gov/article...
The reason is that if a component in your household breaks, the system could switch automatically to the microgrid that your neighborhood shares and draw power off of that until you can get your distributed generation fixed. In addition, if you produce more than your battery bank can store, you can sell the power into the microgrid.
The part of Syria that the government has to suppress wants to get rid of the government, install a theocracy, and run Syria like Iran 2.0 so it's not really compatible with reality.
The whole notion that you can just upgrade the infrastructure you can afford is what got them into this mess. The core issue here is the rate they charge for the power doesn't cover the cost of generating and distributing the power.
Why is investing in Hydro bad? Its a very stable baseload generator for the power grid. The main problem is getting the power over the transmission lines to where it is needed. This was a problem with the 50-60 year old tech probably in place but it's not as much of an issue with current tech and equipment. This means the transmission and distribution circuits need to be upgraded and that costs money. They also have to upgrade the substation equipment to bring in redundancy, allow for better power protection, and better regulate the voltage coming from the substation as well as the voltages on the individual branch lines of each circuit. Spending on infrastructure upgrades is not only a good idea, its necessary.
People are more addicted to the fear of missing out. That is why the joke goes "I look forward to sitting down to relax and read my book this weekend, only to ignore the book and instead browse Twitter for four hours". The instantaneous is happening and people think if they don't tap in, they are already behind all their peers when it comes to knowledge, culture, and being relevant.
You really have no idea how lazy I get after a hard workout. I mean, I might not get off the couch until it's time to walk to dog and go to bed. If I can control the lights and A/C with my smartphone, even better.
You really don't understand how the world works, do you? You think the only other Superpower in the world is going to just take the position of being neutral? Either they are our enemy or they are our friend. There is not much middle ground here. Now that doesn't mean you have to deal with them publicly as an enemy, but tactically, you can never take your eye off the ball. This is the problem. Romney said that they are the biggest threat and Obama balked. He didn't come up with an even bigger threat. Instead he just made some snarky comment about Romney being stuck in the past.
See people, this is why we can't have nice things. You clearly understood the meaning of the OP as meaning an illegal and illicit Trump - Russia connection but you chose to respond to the semantics instead of the core issue. How did you add anything to the conversation?
They already do reach every customer in the country but less efficiently. The post office has places it won't deliver mail to. In order to get mail, you have to have a PO Box in the post office. Crestline, California is one such place. However, FedEx and UPS will deliver to the door even though that takes a lot more work and involves driving down single lane roads that are usually unplowed in the winter. The only thing they have going for them is that they don't have to open a mailbox and secure the package. They just throw it over the fence and then forge the customer signature.
I could tell of one but I'm also posting from their IP address so I will abstain. I will just say this. Look at the efficiency of IOU's versus Municipal run utilities.
The problem is the false dichotomy that Facebook created. Either accept all of the permissions requests or you can't use the app. It should never have been that way. I should be able to use the app and give it no permissions.
Dang. I was just going to patent the corollary to the Pythagoras Theorem for calculating Angle-Side-Angle distances from a point projected out in the middle of the triangle. Then no autonomous car could calculate distances and they would all crash.

That's called theft. The power authority should be going around and reporting these people to the police.

You are saying two modes of transportation don't compete with each other?

You are aware that beer companies constantly tell people not to drink and drive, right?
I was using the royal we. I mean Western Countries as a whole. In this specific example, I am talking about the UK.
We built missiles that could shoot down their missiles.

No, we just ban them from entering the country.

At their own cost. Individual homeowners install the mailboxes for the post office. They pay the cost, not the USPS.

They also have a government mandated monopoly on access to mailboxes, so there's that.

You can easily get bread to warm and stiffen up without significantly causing it to brown. If you read the article, it says to "Go for gold".
This is why people are encouraged to toast bread as lightly as possible. https://www.food.gov.uk/news-u...

Provide a platform for pirating movies and... oh wait, Kim Dotcom is still free. Buahahahahah!
