  1. Re:too bad it doesnt do MP3 on New Walkman-Branded Hard Disk Player · · Score: 1

A story on CNN says that the new Sony Walkman is capable of holding more songs than the iPod, and for a cheaper price.

It says the Walkman is 20 gigabytes and will hold 13,000 songs, and should sell for $400 or less in the US. Comparatively, it lists the 40 gigabyte iPod for $499 retail, estimated to hold 10,000 songs.

Does anyone else see a flaw in this logic?

There is a reason for health insurance, so when you do something foolish or something bad happens to you (bad things happen to good people all the time...) you don't have massive medical bills.

Lawsuits today are very often frivolous. But lawsuits for "faulty products" are necessary to evoke changes.

Insurance has limits. Co-pays, restrictions on certain procedures (perhaps asthetics resulting from the burn in this case), medications, etc. do get costly, even with insurance... not everyone can afford great insurance.

I'm a "poor" college student. My health insurance coverage is very limited, but I have to choose between limited coverage + degree, or just good health insurance. If I get cancer, get pregnant, or a handful of other things - I'm not covered.

I just don't think it's fair to say that she shouldn't have sued because she should have health insurance.

But anyway, that's why, whenever I go to pick up girls, I make them sign a waiver before I will order them any drinks, just so I know ahead of time (and have it in writing) that they're really ready for sex, and not just going to be easily swayed because of a chemical in their brain.

Yet even if you have them sign a waiver, if they change their mind at any point during sex, and communicate that with you - it's still rape.

At my university, it's even rape if the girl's actions are "stiff" and unresponsible, regardless of what she says aloud.

The local grocery store near me had 20 oz bottles of Pepsi for $0.89 /ea... cheaper than the price of a song alone. I wouldn't normally have bought Pepsi or songs from ITMS, but the combination made it too tempting not to. I had 100% luck in finding free songs, using the "tilt the bottle & check" method.

    I disagree -

Integrating computers into everyday education is a positive step. In elementary school we had one hour/week in the computer lab which was spent playing Oregon Trail.

In 6th grade we were required to take "Keyboarding" - it was a class that taught typing skills, increased speed and accuracy with tutorials, etc. Probably the most practical (yet boring) computer course I took in K-12.

I strongly feel that basic computer skills should be taught to students at an early age. In high school, many teachers expect typed papers. If the first time a student is exposed to a computer isn't until HS, that's a heck of a lot to expect.

I don't think all instruction should be done using a computer, but I definitely feel that students should be given instruction on using them as early as possible.

The article said a set of books costs $350/student, and they thought they could get a laptop for $500/student.

We all know laptops become antiquated within a few years. I find it highly unlikely that a laptop would last for 5 years, it's probable that at the 3-4 mark the school district would have to sink big $ into new software licenses, or just buy new machines.

I'm pretty sure I remember some of my school textbooks being pretty darn old... the signatures & dates of students being assigned to them were 10+ years on some books.

So how is buying laptops w/ ebooks saving any money?

My sister, a freshmen in college, made a comment to me yesterday [talking about the chances of getting caught d/l music and movies] - "Well I downloaded a movie, but I deleted it afterwards so they couldn't catch me or know I downloaded it". Windows with no virus scanner works okay, but only in certain environments. I'm a college student residing in a dorm. My subscription for Norton updates expires every year - last year I didn't want to pay the $30 for a new one, so I didn't have any updated virus definitions over the summer, while I was living at home with my parents, living on a 56K modem. In the fall, when I came back to school, I had no choice but to pay the $... too many people on the network to propagate viruses and worms and other badness.
