    All this talk of zero emissions conveniently forgets fertiliser (and perhaps pesticides and herbicides) that will also have to be deployed.

    Why on earth would you use herbicides?! You want the grass to grow, and if a few weeds get in and grow better than the grass then you pelletize and burn them instead. It's all plant matter, and who really cares what plant it was.
    Also, if you RTFA, you would see that they advocate cutting the grass and then leaving it lay there for the minerals to leach back into the soil, so this type of cultivation is very low impact.

    Silicon is the pure element ie. crystalline Si(n)
    Silicone is the the name given to a family of different compounds that generally have the long chain backbone -Si-O-Si-O-Si-O-Si- etc. Each Si also has two other bonds, either to hydrogen atoms - most of them - or other functional groups that give that particular silicone its specific properties.

    You are assuming that every transmission is perfectly omnidirectional.
    That was the whole point of this rifle - make it directional- and there is no reason you couldn't mount two similar ones side by side for RFID tags, one to transmit power in a beam and one to read it. You don't have to saturate a sphere, just deliver the minimum power to a point.
    That said, I think they are idiots for making it look like a rifle. At 12.5cm wavelength you should be able to do better with a small parabolic dish and you would be a lot less likely to get shot.

    If by criticise you mean disparage, then that may be being a bit petty with beta software.
    However the original and technical meaning of criticise is to point out both the good and bad points as well as the errors and/or faults in something, in order to allow it to be corrected/improved.
    This is a good thing to do .

    All chemical equations must balance both atoms and charges.
    In the case of copper:

    2 FeCl3 + Cu => 2 FeCl2 + CuCl2

    in the case of etching iron:

    2 FeCl3 + Fe => 3 FeCl2

    During the reaction, nothing much happens to the CL-, but two Fe+++ go to Fe++ and one Cu or Fe goes to Cu++ or Fe++.
    Fe++ has a much lower electrolytic potential than Fe+++, and this is what drives the reaction.
    Ferric chloride can be used to etch most metals and alloys, unless the metal(Cl)n salt that is formed is insoluble, in which case it will form a coating and physically interfere with the reaction. (You can use chelating agents to get around this, but thats another story:)
