  1. iTunes Ringtone Fees on ASCAP Wants To Be Paid When Your Phone Rings · · Score: 1

Theoretically, if I purchase a song from Apple, and then I would like to make that into a ringtone, I have to pay Apple for that right. Where does that money go? I assumed that they were paying a portion of it to a third party for different playing rights.

The issue is moot, of course, since http://www.iringer.net/ is free, which makes my ringtones the same.

  2. Re:DoD wiping standards on Unclean Military Hard Drives Sold On eBay · · Score: 1

The DSS (Defense Security Service), the guys that came up with the wipe standard, updated this June 28, 2007.

Section 54 of this document details the update.

Basically, the deal is that wiping a drive is no longer an option for sensitive or classified material. The media HAS to be physically destroyed.

"Effective immediately, DSS will no longer approve overwriting procedures for the sanitization or downgrading (e.g. release to lower level classified information controls) of IS storage devices (e.g., hard drives) used for classified processing."

This has to be the most absolutely ignorant and appalling comment I have ever seen posted on any forum I have ever been privy to be a member of. The contents of this post, having not been moded down to absolute lowest levels of "troll", bring me shame even in reading it.
I'm at a complete loss of words at this point and amazed that you, as evolution suggests, still exist. Anything you say at this point in rebuttal should be viewed as derogatory and demeaning (even in future posts).
I would also like to recommend that your account be canceled on this site. Reading your comments causes me and others nothing but negative responses. Your comments instigate and infuriate people in a non-beneficial way. You instigate negative resposes, and further, I believe that is your entire charge. I should only hope that you, one day, will come to realize that race/color/gender/creed has nothing to do with where you are in life. Perhaps if you worked a little harder earlier in life, you might be happier with where you are at.

Speaking as a veteran of TWO services I would also like to say that I've fought for your right to say these asinine comments, and while it might be your right (to be so damned stupid), no one with common sense would agree with your comments.

Use some common sense, and some good judgment. If you're lacking of either, sign up and serve with any one of the people I have. You might learn something.

I rue the day that I would need a job from EDS. Wait, let me start again. When I go to work, I go in to work. I chose to be a network engineer and PC tech because I love my job and I like to help people. I didn't do it so I could screw people out of money. If you're in it for the cash, more power to you, but you could at least provide good service for good money, which is not the case from what I've heard from the people that have been unfortunetly struck by EDS.
Actually, the only reports that I have found of good quality of service are those that come out of Washington, and SUPRISE!!, that's where the money comes from.

Sounds to me like corporate ass kissing.

Last year (state elections) I worked for Diebold in Georgia. As far as Sys Admin jobs go, this one was VERY simple, and the county I was supervising had NO problems. I briefed my elections officials the day before the election, making sure that if they had any questions to ask before hand. Come election day, they brought in the results, I entered them into the system, printed the verification reports, and that was all. Extremely simple, and there was no point when any machines were on a LAN (I've heard stories that there had been problems because people put the machines on LAN's. Cover your bases, don't hire idiots, and show some type of security. (Since the systems aren't that secure, you must keep them off a LAN.)

Two nights ago, I came home from work to find that my TechTV was no longer included in my programming. I called Comcast to see what was going on and they informed me that the 'Buisness Network' channels were now $5 more a month. This included TechTV, Bloomberg, and a few others. Of course, I told them to go ahead and charge me the $5. I was curious about the sudden billing change, but now I understand. A lot of money was probably spent on this, and I'm sure they wanted to see how many users jumped at the chance to have TechTV back before they annouced the buy.
