My old ISP (http://www.jkn.no/) are doing something similar.
They have scheduled portscanning of their customers.
If they find ANY listening ports they will throttle your speed to modem speed.
That is what made me switch ISP.
I need to log on to my box at home from work sometimes.
Closing all ports was not an option.
I have remote access enabled.
However you need to spoof the correct IP and MAC address after portknocking with cryptographic hashes and attempt-limiting enabled. With some extra black magic on top of that you're NAT'ed to the login of the OSX machines in the LAN.
Yes, I have some Macs in my LAN.
So?
1. Airline goes bankrupt
2. Terrorist buys a ticket for a cruise.
3. Suddenly we can't bring liquids onto a boat
Same M.M.O, different vehicle of mass transport.
if new MS products differ too radically from their old ones, or are completely incompatible etc, then suddenly the barrier between them and Linux/Apple etc is lowered dramatically. Am I the only one seeing the connection between
Windows Vista and the increased sales of Apple products ?
I think Vista did differ too radically and the barrier has in fact been lowered.
Not as dramatically as you picture, but enough to shift some marketshare balance.
Yey! I've been transferred into a computer. I will live forev. . GENERAL PROTECTION FAULT - PLEASE CONTACT MICROSOFT
I would have, but I ran a postfix server at the time. Can't have all your users portknock every time they want to send an email :-)

DARPA is to CIA/DIA/NSA what Q is to James Bond ?
Q never saw much action, but he contributed to whatever 007 was doing.
but how did you explain the hand down your pants ?
SSH Tunneling:
me@ikeabox:~$ ssh -X -C me@norwegian.server
me@norwegian.server's password:
Velkommen til Norge
me@norwegian.server:~$ iceweasel http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tunneling_protocol
well, piratebay.org.cn is still available.
Am I the only one who read "if the source isn't available, we wine" ?
and BMWs have them both run over.
My rims are red with a nice shade of brain.
(Cue evil laughter)

No, but it seems that the Japanese may soon have the strongest houses around. Paper houses for everyone.
I doubt you slept 9 hour(s) after drinking all that water.
