Like someone else already posted, Mepis is a better KDE Debian distro than a Knoppix hd install. Knoppix really is good but its an utter mess trying to update once installed on a hard drive.

Just for an FYI to the thread, I'm using Ubuntu as I write this now and Ubuntu is certainly my distro of choice now. Try it, you'll like it.

When did we suddenly become able to patent Mathematics?

Perhaps when you do you mathematical calculations with someone else's calculator - a calculator {OS} which you've agreed to their license to use for a short term, and proliferates so quickly that no one sees the mathematics anymore, just the calculator.

When was the last time you did some nasty differential equations by hand? The modern tools are great, but sometimes users forget that they are only a tool - of which there are many more.

In order to make the non-MS file formats more popular, you can't continue to think that always using them is the best way to interact with other businesses. Instead, use better file formats for the tasks at hand.

For example, try using PDF and XML documents instead of .doc and .xls for a change. And guess what? These file formats work on virtually all systems, and even modern MS systems can read and write these formats!

The benefit, to me at least, is this is the first distro that has me 100% spending my time in Linux anymore. This is the first distro I've liked that much and Ubuntu's creator's are largely responsible.

Give it a try. It's a GREAT distro!

I was aware of failures in other brands due to the poor fluid, but Abit just seemed to have an especially high failure rate when compared to the others even. Perhaps its because they use more in their power regulation circuits (usually a good thing). However, my dealings with Abit over the matter with many, many RMA's jaded my Abit experience - never again. RMA an non-functioning board, and gets one that 'works' but has so many memory error you can't count. BTW, trying to exchange an RMA again...same thing. Like they stockpiled broken boards and just keep sending them to different RMAs. The end solution is to have to reformat and reinstall with a NEW motherboard, from a different brand!
