    ...it's just there so Mac OS X can run.

    Apple said Mac OS X wil run just on Macs (of course). That chip is there to tell Mac OS X it's a Mac so it can run.
    It doesn't do anything else. You still have complete control of the computer, and any operating system has (Windows, Linux, *BSD, BeOS and so on).

    There's a proof I am right: here. Windows XP running on a apple developer intel machine.
    How could this be possible if I wasn't right? The software has full control on the hardware even ignoring that chip (or tearing it away, if you're stupid enough: you won't be able to run Mac OS X). That chip isn't anything more than USB (or old serial ones) dongles given with some applications to make sure you're authorized to run them. It's just built on the motherboard.

    So, please, stop saying nonsenses.

    May I paraphrase?

    I need the Mini to play video on HDTV. My needs are fullfilled by the mini, except for the main one (fullscreen HDTV)

    Looks like you need more than a Mac Mini.
    Why did you buy one? Just because it was the cheapest mac?
    Your needs aren't fullfilled by cheap computers. Buy a more powerful and expensive one and stop complaining!

  8. Re:Sweet Spot on New iBook and Apple mini · · Score: 2, Insightful

    If you need a Mac which has video card with a GPU supported by Core Image and 64 MB of Video RAM, why do you buy a Mac Mini?

    Mac Minis are meant for people who really want a Mac but don't want to spend much money (and don't want professional or advanced features).
    If you want a very powerful machine but still small, you'd rather buy a PowerBook.

    You get what you pay for. The trick is buying something that fits your needs, not something that isn't meant for your needs and then complain it doesn't fit them.

  9. Tape! on Online Backup Solutions? · · Score: 1
    Maybe I'm a bit offtopic, but I'm quite sure that backups on tape are the better choice. Compared to "backup providers online", they are:
    • faster;
    • more customizable (you backup exactly when you want to);
    • less risky (does the provider peek into your data? what if it's being hacked?)
    • cheaper;
    • way more secure (I wouldn't allow ANYONE to access important data from the internet, never ever)
    Sorry for the off topic :)

    I've been shooting with a digital reflex and studying photography for a year, more or less.
    Now I feel the need to learn how to develop film and print by myself, and black & white is the easiest way to start (and the cheapest one). Moreover, what you get with a B/W film is different from converting a color digital image to B/W with Pornoshop.
    And a roll of Fuji Neopan 1600 shot at 3200 (or 6400) ASA is VERY different from anything you digies are used to! :P They're two different kinds of photographies, with different uses :)
