>Apple has yet to really make massive pushes into literally billions of potential customers.
Yeah sub saharan africa is crying out for premium priced ipads and iphones. As is rural China etc. Seriously though, Apple gains market share because of uniqueness, but then loses market share because of price. Always. Always. Always.
> They won't fail in any way shape or form.
So then you've obviously invested your lifes savings in Apple stock right? No? Why not.
>They have enough cash on hand to buy any new market or company they want.
Same could be said of Yahoo! at one time. Success isn't about writing big checks.
>Apple is actually the opposite of what you are claiming, they aren't a "running to stand still" company at all, they are a marathon runner
whoah let me stop you there.
Microsoft? IBM? Oracle? Facebook? Twitter? etc. etc.
I don't think so kid. The VAST majority of the tech industry consists of "marketshare warriors" who stand and fight nose-to-nose over an existing market, they do not go and create new markets on their own like Apple used to (at least they don't do it any more). Often times, when they get crowded out they die rather than innovate our into a new market space So rather than being simply "wrong", you are in fact "power wrong". You strapped the "afterburners of incorrectitude" to your back and fired those bad boys up. This is now playing in the background... youtube.com/watch?v=MVNQGUkRX_U
Discolsure: I am not an apple fan and do not own any apple gear.
Apple's entire business is based on breaking new ground with an innovative new product, exploiting that products uniqueness before the rest start copying them and flood the market with "me too" devices. Then Apple has to move on to something else.
This "running to stand still" existence cannot go on indefinitely. When they fall it will be spectacular and kind of sad to be honest as, love them or hate them, they are a huge catalyst for change in the tech industry.
Classic tax scam. They can charge their video subsidiary for faster bandwidth, like what happened to Netflix, and write that off against their tax bill. Classic. They are not actually trying to compete with YouTube or Netflix.
If you suck at a sport, pick another. don't expect the rules to bend to suit you. God damned generation of pussies growing up expecting a medal every time they play a sport.
Many eyeballs may make bugs shallower, but those many eyeballs don't really exist. Source availability does not translate to many people examining that source. People, myself included, may like to build to install packages but that's it.
What we need are intelligent bots to constantly trawl source repositories looking for bugs. People just don't have the time any more.
I hope we at least have water neutrality where we don't get charged more for using water for showering as opposed to washing the car. thats where its all going folks.
>In terms of how much control they had on the industry they absolutely did.
IBM never had a 90%+ stranglehold on the market. MS did.
>They never had the sort of installed base that MS has with Windows because there were never any where near
>as many mainframes as there are PCs, but guess what, there are already more mobile devices out there running
>Android than there are PCs running Windows.
There are also more ios devices being sold then windows PCs out there = more competition in mobile space than in the PC space. http://qz.com/176643/its-offic...
True. So true. We narrowly dodged the WCF bullet by delaying so long in switching to it that it was dead by the time we were ready. Straight to WebAPI.
For years MS was run like the UFC with battling stables of fighters constantly trying to fuck eachother up, ultimately at the expense of the Devs/Users.
Remains to be seen if the new guy "gets it" and smashes the toxic and entrenched Fiefdom system that exists in Redmond.
Correct. You'll notice I'm not shouting for any particular company to gain a monopoly or near-monopoly, As none of the companies you mentioned have ever wielded, or indeed abused the kind of power MS had, they are not considered as dangerous or debate-worthy in this regard.
The health of an eco-system can be measured by its diversity and MS has repeatedly demonstrated itself to be a diversity-killer.
I still dont' trust MS. Once they start getting back large market share the old anti competitive stifling old fart of a company will emerge from behind the mask again.
They need to just continue to wither away. The software industry has never been as vibrant or innovative as the last few years when MS was down.
The Scene: A packed Moe's Tavern, with the tills ringing and overflowing due to sales of the 'Flaming Moe' beverage. Cue a disgruntled Homer Simpson... Homer: Hey Moe, you just..... you just lost yourself a customer. Moe: Yeah you can use it!
I guess we now know for sure who holds the real power in the US now that the supreme court judges are too cowardly to do their god damned jobs. Are they too busy hearing other cases? What case could be more pressing that allegations of illegal mass surveillance? 300 million victims, and some cowards in robes.
He's still got Obama's election slogans ringing in his ears "Yes we can!" and "Change!!" lol. Obama is a political animal, just like all the others in DC. Do not expect anything different from him. As another commenter pointed out, he is part of the system that created and supports the military surveillance complex.

Calling a modern mobile device a "cell phone" is like calling your car "a horse".

Soccer-mom-itis infecting the gentlemans sport.
I like the way you think sir. I'm sure there is a practical angle there somewhere.

>Excuse me????? IBM never wielded or abused the kind of power that MS had????
Nope. IBM never had and install base like MS. Never had license revenues like MS. Were not at the top as long as MS.
Don't get me wrong, IBM were nasty motherfuckers in their day, but their stick was considerably smaller than Microsoft's.

Is there any other kind of sub-point release update?

Seriously though, way to cripple the roll-out of a product with potential.
If it is the reference then making claims about its accuracy is surly redundant?
I wonder what backdoor the NSA has built into this.
