It's like TheSims in the way that a skateboard is like an airplane, or like TheSims is like Quake, or like Linux is like WindowsXP. Take a look at the everquest website if you want to see screenshots of it. Or get a taste of it yourself for $10 per month. When you log out your character disapears from the world...when you log back in you reapear in the same spot. And if you stop paying your monthly bill you can't log in anymore until you pay again...they save your character(s) for you in case you decide to come back.

It just seems most obvious to me since the current series is a prequal. They could make a really good movie of the beginning of the war with the klingons if they don't get around to doing it on the TV show before it's canceled.

I'm usually not disapointed by this star wars stuff, but it irks me that this historical DVD release is getting bundled with 1: pimping the new movie, 2:(worse) a demo of an upcoming Xbox game. SW video games have been more miss than hit and for all we know SW:Battlefront might suck like the Terminator 3 game, so why dump it in here?

Maybe if you skipped the crappy first viewing on your computer and waited to see it on the big screen first we wouldn't have to listen to you and thousands of lamers like you whine about how the movie sucked, had crappy special fx, bad sound, etc. Try actually seeing the movie first before complaining.

Qucktime and Realplayer are so similar it doesn't surpise me. They both try to hide their free versions, both do anything they can to try to stop you from saving a file to disk so you can see it without the stutter of streaming. Both do thier best to try to spam you with ads and restrict you from resizing or making it full screen. They both excel at annoying and sucking, so they might as well form an alliance of suckitude.

  11. What happens if someone tries to install TheSims? on Wal-Mart Sells PCs Preloaded With Sun's Linux · · Score: 1

Forgive my ignorance for knowing next to nothing about linux other than you need to mess with a lot of config files to make it work. What happens if Jane Public buys a copy of The Sims and tries to install it on this linux box?
I'd say if it doesn't install every bit as easily as it would on windows (ie: insert CD, click okay a few times, then ready to play), then Jane Public will forevermore considder linux and anything to do with it to be crap, and will have windows installed just as fast as she can borrow a windows install CD from a sympathetic friend. That right there is the ultimate hurdle that Linux -must- overcome before ever hoping to compete seriously with MS.

The problem with teleportation is that it usually involved being disintergrated. What comes out on the other end might look like you and act like you and think like you, but you just got disintergated so for you it's game over. Given time everyone will be replaced by reintergrated clones.

I agree that gasoline has to go. All the power we could ever need comes from the sun and if large enough solar collectors were built in space all the worlds power could be beamed down via microwave or similar transmission. I'd like to see more computer driven electric cars where you tell it your destination and it drives you there faster than the legal speed limit for flesh drivers in special computer driver only fast lanes. I'd like to see transit tubes like in Logan's Run that route passengers around the world at high speed like packets through the internet. And most highways should be elevated above the land and covered like glass tunnels to eliminate weather effects and roadkill. I could go on but that would be a great start.

  15. Re:Who actually shops at Wally-Mart? on RFID Coming 'Whether You Like It Or Not' · · Score: 1

I do nearly all my shopping at the local wal-mart supercenter. I probably spend half as much on the same items as you do and get them in half the time because I'm not running all over town to buy different items. I carry no loyalty cards because wal-mart doesn't inflict that on it's customers. You have a choice...pay less to shop and do it in less time, or buy into all the anti-wal-mart propaganda and suffer the loyalty cards, high prices, limited selections, and overpriced designer tinfoil hats of the wal-mart hater's lifestyle. I look forward to all this RFID stuff coming because it'll save me even more money and time. And the precision targeted coupons that come with it will also be cool.
