What you suggest is a good idea.

SBC did this to me using the 2wire modem setup... took a little while to figure out that the modem had a builtin nat/firewal and wireless . Figured it out when I started getting 172.16 addresses popping up on my linksys router when my linksys uses 192.168

I am running plenty of servers off of a dynamic IP from the SBC DSL residential package at $29.99 :) Although it sucks, and my upload is maxxed at 20kB/s, it is free and I have learned a lot.

    Lets see...
I'm running Apache, sshd, sendmail, proftpd, mysql... Its perfectly fine for personal and a few friends

One way I have heard is using CPU time as the penalty. Say it would take a few seconds of your CPU to send an email. You have to solve a math problem or something.

That way spammers who rely on sending millions of emails can not compete because it would be too costly.

I don't have 5 buttons of functions plus the scrolling functions that I have in XP. It really bugs me...

Windows is installed on a 30gB partition I installed Fedora on a 512M swap and a 10G /ex2 partition I expected it to work so I had it configure Grub (or it didnt' give me a choice, I dont remember) Anyway, it rebooted and I saw that it didn't show my Windows partition like Slackware 9.1 before it, and Redhat 9, and Mandrake 10, and Gentoo 2004.0 Anyway... I didn't know a way to fix my problem so I quit Fedora, gave my CDs to a homeless man and installed good old Slack... Anyway, I'd have to say that Linux (Specifically Dropline Gnome 2.6 with Slack 9.1) still isn't close to XP for me as a Desktop operating system. I'm using XP now and have transfered some MP3s over to the space it use to inhabit.
