    I agree that we have different standards. I see lots of activities other then slavery and destruction of the environment as evil.

    I don't buy this argument. I hear it all the time from the shillboys. I don't believe that every company in the world or every company in IT is as evil as Ms. I just don't buy it.

    It depends on your database. On some databases the database takes care of all that for you. You change the master and the database changes all the child records. It's called "cascaded updates and deletes".

    Anyway...

    Relational theory says that each row must be uniquely identifable. People have hacked on the integer key to obey the letter of the theory while ignoring the spirit. I am not saying you should never use it, I am saying you should avoid it whenever possible (like NULLs).

    My second point is that all child tables must carry all the keys of all parent tables and that the primay key must be a multi field key. If you do that then your database becomes much easier to maintain.

    This is wrong...

    Table Invoices.
    CustomerID, InvoiceID.
    1,1
    1,2
    2,3
    2,4

    It should be like this
    CustomerID, InvoiceID
    1,1
    1,2
    2,1
    2,2

    Until you do that your database will be a nightmare to maintain

    I loaded up puppy linux the other day and it only consumed 140K or RAM. I was thinking that it might be good run puppy as a host to VMware and run all your OSes inside VMware.

    There are two main reasons people denormalize. One is that they are using artificial keys. It's become all too common to use increasing integers and guids. This leads to...

    Not carrying the keys to related tables. If there is a relation four tables deep (customers, invoices, lineitems for example) then the table at the end needs to carry all the keys of all the parent tables.

    I know many people will disagree with those points I found that it's the single biggest cause of umpteen table joins. Sure it takes a lot of room to carry all those keys, sure multi field primary keys are not in fashion anymore but in my opinion it's the only way.

    I know for a fact that members of the knesset have called for genocide and ethnic cleansing. I don't know if that counts as "israel" saying those things but I imagine if a US senator called for the destruction of all native americans people would take it pretty seriously.

    It's a pretty common place occurance in israel. How many times has a prominent Israeli called for ethnic cleansing? It must happen a couple of times a year.

    Intent? Let's examine intent in terms of saddam and bush.

    Both saddam and bush killed lots of innocent civillians in order to subjugate a country to their will. They both faced insurgencies and they both reacted with obcene amounts of violence, torture, massacres and mass bombing inside of cities.

    So they both had the same intent, to put down an insurgency.

    Intent re palestine and israel?

    Israels intent is to subjugate 3.5 million people to their will, to take their land, to expand settlements outside of their borders. Palestenians intent is to gain freedom and human rights and a country.

    Palestenians will lay down their explosive when they gain their freedom.

    Let's not kid ourselves though. There will never be peace in the middle east. God is telling israelis to kill palestenians and to take their land. He is also telling palestenians to kill jews and to take their land. As long as both countries are listening to god there will never be peace.

    Killing is a sport over there now. The so called holy land has become satans playground.

    It's true that tobacco kills lots of people a year. They are near the top of the list for me. Ms is not a threat to humans, it's a threat to humanity. The ability to communicate freely, to pass information from one generation to another, from one human to another is what separates humans from the animals. Ms is actively trying to curb this freedom and working in close partnerships with others who want to curb this freedom.

    On another point IT is arguably the most imporant industry on the planet. It is literally the glue that holds modern civiliation together. Ms is bad for IT, Ms is bad for civilization.

    OK, I'll buy that. Every country does that. When china invaded tibet and taiwan they were perfectly within their rights to keep that land.

    Here is the odd thing though. Civilized nations eventually make the people they conquered citizens. We did it with the indians, the chinese did it with the tibetians, the turks did it with the kurds, hell the iraqis did it with the kurds. Every civilized nation has done that eventually except israel of course.

    Sure you won the land fair and square. Now do the civilized thing and give those poeple full and fair rights and benefits just like all your other citizens.

    This is the most irrational thing I have heard in a long time.

    As for moral equavalence I think that's a bad road to follow. There is plenty of moral equavalence between bush and saddam. They have both killed civillians, they have both tortured people, they have both bombed and destroyed citites. The only difference is in volume and methods. That's it. In fact in terms of number of civillians killed Bush probably has an edge by now.

    Let's take a look at moral equavalence in Israel and palestine. One side kills people in order to continue their subjugation and occupation, the other side kills people trying to gain their freedom and shake off their opressors. No equavalence there. The palestenians are in a clearly morally superior position.

    You I guess I don't think it's bad that people die. They are going to die eventually anyway what a few years more or less. Let's face it most people aren't going to do anything all that great in their remaining years anyway.

    My father was supposed to die many years ago. The doctors permormed miracles and brought him back from the edge of death. But he is not the man he used to be. He suffers from many disabilities as a result of his illness and the operation used to save him. He is continually miserable too. He is my father, when he finally dies I am going to be profoundly sad and it's going to change my life but I still think he should have died back then. I don't believe in god and I don't think he is going to heaven or hell. I just think it was a mistake to force him to live when his body had given out, just to resurrect him as a crippled and sad old man. I hate seeing him this way and I have made sure I have a living will so that I will never be in his position either.

    Supposedly Kruschev was insane too. The problem is that we all think that people who disagree with us are insane (they would have to be right? No sane person could disagree with us). Saddam was not and is not insane. Osama is not insane. They guys running Iran are not insane. Kim jung il is not insane. They are perfectly sane people. They may think differently then you, they may want different things then you but they are not insane.

    As for Israel I think the best way to get elected in israel and to best way to move up in the polls or to distract the public from your scandals is to kill arabs. That's what their politicians do. I am not saying it's insane, that's just what they do to stay in power.

    Having said all that I sometimes think Bush is indeed insane. You know "you talk to god you are religous, god talks to you then you are insane" thing.

    1) People who disagree with you are zealots. Only zealots can possibly disagree with your obviously rational and well thought out opinions.
    2) People who hold other values then you are doing it because they think it's a religion. You (and the people who agree with you 100%) are the only rational people on the planet.
