Sure, I bet you could find child porn on any major P2P service; the difference is that Freenet almost *encourages* it because of their philosophy. With any other P2P service, you can choose to avoid it, you don't have to download OR upload it. With Freenet, apparently you don't have that choice. I think we can agree that all Slashdotters here would not want to aid unwillingly in the distribution of child pornography, which is why Freenet has been received with cold reviews in the past here.
Forgot to mention, eXeem will also use magnet-type links; think eDonkey/eMile, but with a exeem:// forfront instead. Instead of posting a torrent to a website, you can post a verified link that downloads the correct file.
No-one is going to use a service that disregards child pornography just to test your faith. Also, it's horrendously slow even after a day or so of use.
If you know where to look, there's a closed beta of eXeem avaliable - however, it needs a beta key in order to join the network - and it can't be a random key, i.e. it's assigned by the Suprnova team. At the time of writing, the version I have is 0.16, and does NOT include any adverts of some sort, although yes Sloncek did confirm this earlier this evening.
The basic user interface is friendly, and it's basically a "compact" version of Kazaa (you have to use it to really understand).
As for the release date, it "won't be this week, or next week, but very very soon". It'll be an open beta, to chink out all the bugs.
Bad news, especially since Ubisoft are on a roll recently (despite the bleh Prince of Persia: Warrior Within). Can anyone say Splinter Cell: 2007 Edition?
Uh, yeah. With the Gravity Gun you can pick up chairs, tables, radiators, lockers, and throw them at your opponents (the Gravity Gun is actually a bit more powerufl than normal, but it's not as powerful as the Super Gravity Gun you get at the end of the game).
You're half right. Although they claimed that they wouldn't be working on a multiplayer at all, and that "CS:S would be HL2's multiplayer", it was pretty obvious that they would release at least some functioning version that would work with Steam.
Having said that, I agree with you about the levels. I've told my friends again and again that when it comes to multiplayer, Valve will just leave it to the community, because they're not *that* dedicated. They can make great SP games (case in point; HL1 and, uh... HL2), but they have to rely on other people for multiplayer (Counter-Strike was originally an independent mod they snapped up due to it's popularity).
Right, but of the two, UT2k4 is vastly superior when it comes to multiplayer. Doom 3 multiplayer is a joke. I don't think I know anyone who plays it.
Also; Remember that UT2k4 has been out for quite a long time now. While it has a very strong community, a lot of people have lost interest, so HL2DM could be quite a refreshing change for them.
For those who haven't had a chance to try it out yet, it's a mixed bag. The two levels included (the Prison [Nova Prospekt] level in SP, and the sniping part of City 17) are fairly small, and they allow you to use the Gravity Gun. They've smattered the levels with lots of throwable objects, so "throw and catch" isn't uncommon, but for those with only half-decent machines or connections, it starts to lag quite fast, especially with 16 players.
Weapons are pretty much the same as HL2SP/HL1DM. You've got your machine gun, grenades, crossbow (hell yeah). The only new one like I say is the Gravity Gun so you can mess with the physics.
It's a nice alternative to CS:S for those who don't enjoy it. However it's quite fast paced, and I think we need bigger levels before we can fully appreciate it. But, nice one Valve.
I wouldn't say companies are just using blogs, I'd say they're using the Internet to it's full potential right now. The Ilovebees.com example is a good one, but another more recent one is definatly the Nintendo DS; there are a number of images and videos crawling the web that are meant to give the advertising campaign a "darker" edge while promoting the use of the wireless networking capabilities.
Although of course you get the pranks, i.e. the $350 price tag of the Sony PSP.
Wow, this is very surprising. One would expect with similar Windows benchmarks for the X800 to be matching or beating the 6800 Ultra (depending on drivers of course), so these low X800 scores in Linux really are quite a shock.
TiVo was in fact released here in the UK, but it never took off, and as a result they withdrew it from the market.
Instead, we have Sky+, and the reason that was so successful was because it intergrated two exisiting components - the Sky set-top box, which received the satellite service, and also a TiVo box, which recorded your programmes/movies. Since many, many people already subscribe to Sky, all they would have to do is buy the box for around £150, and upgrade their monthly service for an extra £10.
And in regards to Netflix, you can record Sky Movies and Box Office showings on your Sky+ box, without having to download anything. Unfortunatly they're not latest releases, but hey, it's better than nothing.
First, we have the inevitable piracy argument, that you can rip the movie fairly easily to a computer for all others to see, especially since there's no protection like a DVD could possible give.
Second, what about all those different versions of movies? Will they offer, for example, the Return of the King Theatrical *and* EE version? The primary concern here is both the time it takes to download, since many people have varying speeds of connection, and whether or not TiVo/Netflix can keep up with demand from thousands (millions?) of customers all wanting the same movie when it just gets released.
And in regards to length of movies, what about storage capacity on the TiVo? Won't it fill up awfully quickly given a certain amount of movies downloaded rather than purchased on DVD?
Indeed, when I saw how I was moderated, I groaned in real life. Some people, really... the moderators are being way too assertive for this particular article.
It's really very sad and depressing to find that the first ten or fifteen comments of this article (yes, I browse at -1 level) are all offtopic and attempts at first post.
My deepest sympathies to the family of that person killed.

Actually, it wasn't a plant, it was an animal called a Ysalmari (sp) that created an anti-Force bubble that was hardly big at all. The problem was when large amounts of Ysalmari were grouped together, then their collective bubbles formed a giantic anti-Force area.
For clarification, when I say "perform the same/better", I meant for gaming purposes. I can't remember results for normal applications, but you're probably right.
Originally AMD released two versions of the Athlon 2600+, a 333Mhz bus and a 266Mhz bus version. Whether or not you can still buy the 266 bus version is speculation, it's been a while since I've seen it.
The Barton 2500+ is probably the best chip that AMD have ever released. It was cheap, it performed well, and it was an overclocker's dream. It's not at all uncommon to find many people who have a 2500+ and have overclocked it to 3200+ speeds with nothing more than a stock cooler, without crashing.
The Semprons, however, are rather lacklustre, and I'm nto sure why they released them for the Socket A platform... the XP's are the same price and perform better. The only Sempron anyone would be remotely interested in is the Socket 754 Sempron 3000+, which gves the same performance as an Athlon 64 2800+, but without the 64bit compatability (i.e. no Windows XP 64 edition).
I was using 0.8.2, but I just downloaded 1.0.0, and I get the same disconnect. Actually, it's a new error, in that it can't communicate with the MSN HTTP server (or something to that effect).
Gaim is a good program, I've been using it for a while now, but last time I formatted my computer, it kept dropping the connection to MSN... despite the fact that my ports are forwarded correctly, and it was working just fine previously. So I've had to revert back to MSN Messenger 6.2, where there's no problem.
Otherwise, it's a great little program.
The problem with these graphics cards is that their native slot is PCI Express now, which means gamers have to wait an extra month or two for an AGP version. There aren't many people I know (actually, I don't think I know any at all) who have PCI Express, and the motherboards that do feature it at the moment (only Intel ones at that) aren't very good at all.
Having said that, the nVidia 6600 is a great line of cards, especially the 6600GT. The X700 is too little too late, unfortunatly, but ATI diehards will probably appreciate the middle ground they're offering. I myself was put off by ATI's lack of dynamic range, unlike nVidia, which is why I bought a nVidia 6800 (vanilla) a couple of weeks ago, and I must say, it's one hell of a card. Counter-Strike: Source and Doom 3 are smooth as butter.

This may be redundant and pointless, but the BBC has a live stream of the election coverage on their website. They report the results as they break.
