my setup is a ramsey fm10c and a rescued pentium 166. for a tiny microwatt transmitter i get better than a 1/4 mile range. more than enough to cover my house and yard.
If you drive a car, I'll tax the street
If you try to sit, I'll tax your seat
If you get too cold I'll tax the heat
If you take a walk, I'll tax your feet
props to gh
jeeze, it seems that my fellow babyboomers that are now in charge have convoluted the call of "revolution for the hell of it" into taxation for the hell of it. i'm sorta disapointed.
twenty+ years ago i was a roofing apprentice (as in hot tar) with limited funds and a wife and three kids to support. work gloves are essential in this trade for obvious reasons. i bleve it was a local Menard store that bundled several pairs of gloves with a paper wrapper, and sold the bundles for a cheaper per unit price. there was a lengthy stretch of time when i would buy the bundled gloves and the cashier would scan the UPC on an individual pair of gloves.
karmatically last year, i left my tacoma in the local Menard's parking lot for about an hour to do some shopping and browsing. at some point while inside the store my truck's rear bumper was removed and carted off. no witnesses. no lot cameras.
i have a dated paperback (late 60s?) from straight arrow press that suggests the grafting of hops to the rootstock of reefer as a form of camouflage while growing.
no, i have a better real firewall. itsa headless pentium 75 box running debian sarge and iptables (i found a reasonable bash script from a google search that i cut and pasted for the most part whole) as my masquerade (NAT?) gateway router deally between my home network and the internet cloud.
oh yeah, and the only windows i have in my house are the architectural devices (ok, i confess to xbox ownership, but network connectivity only happens when it boots into xebian.).
i dunno about stable, but i have had pretty good luck with my sid desktop (many months of no serious breakage)by only upgrading after 6:00 PM CST and only on Sunday evenings.
my thirteen year old grandson got busted at home cuz he left his pron addresses in the location bar deally and my daughter found them rather easily. great, now i have to set up a squid proxy etc here at my house cuz he has a log in account on my deb sid desktop. oh well, the box i use for masquerading needed to be updated soon anyway...
a bad 512MB DIMM stick on my desktop had fsck stuff my entire ext3 filesystem into lost+found. so even though i had a separate ro,noauto/boot partition, the kernel loaded then panicked when no / was found.
perhaps they can use all those "good enough" chips on the new "trusted computing" deally.
nero for money or k3b for free...tough choice?
on
NeroLinux vs. K3b
·
· Score: 1
i found knoppix3.7 to be a lifesaver on recovering a trashed ext3 file system that fsck stuffed entirely into lost+found. the included k3b worked out of the box to burn the few dvd-rws i needed to recover the remains of my smoldering debian sid partition.
or, i spose i could have upgraded my windows partition from winme to xp so i could run the install disk i got with my hp630i or buy a nero copy...
i applaud his effort. he is very generous. no, i will not use his PC software products. my choice. damn, his choice to donate all that effin money seems to make my choice to appear puny. oh well. but then not paying for my OS and various and sundry software lets me bail out my kids more often from their occasional financial woes and still have a bleeding edge desktop on less than current hardware.
apparently, IBM hasn't figured that part out yet. why would a company steeped in unix need to tack on windows training wheels? i dunno, maybe i just don't get it.
until ms starts paying me (and it would need to be a substantial amount of dollars, like enough for me to quit my effin job) to use their stuff, i'll slog along with my debian powered home LAN.
which i personally have solved at home by cresting the learning curve of *nix. yeah it's not a perfect solution by any means. but instead of chasing my tail and trying to bludgeon an ms OS into submission, i have been slowly learning how to tailor a linux based OS to my needs and wants. i'm not chasing a moving target of virus, spyware, adware or what have you. to me, joe sixpack, my choice just seems easier. oh yeah, and the free beer aspect...duh!
as a father of three and a grandfather of nine, i whole heartedly agree.
jeeze, pass on your effin genes, practice the golden rule deally, enjoy the show, then effin leave the building. who the hell wants to live forever on this orbiting stone? i hope i die before i get old.
my "too old" benchmark will be a remake of "animal house." i have already heard muzak versions of hendrix tunes in elevators and that is just scary, and hearing the ramones'"blitzkrieg bop" inna tv commericial just seems too weird.

2 bad these dumbass modpoints limit me to posted comments and not headlines.
but you'll get perfectly ordinary THC-free hops...
you've managed to send my dream of an undetectable reefer plantation up in THC free smoke...closest relative of hops is cannabis.
i have a dated paperback (late 60s?) from straight arrow press that suggests the grafting of hops to the rootstock of reefer as a form of camouflage while growing.i read the headline to mean an exploit was found. then i read the article. oh, not a literal string, it is literally string. nevermind...
"Is there any situation where you can see yourself open to the possibility of using an Ad-Supported operating system?"
gunpoint."As long as Linux caters to the geek, it can't cater to the grandparent."
i dunno if compiling my own kernel makes me a geek, but i am definitely a grandfather...no, i have a better real firewall. itsa headless pentium 75 box running debian sarge and iptables (i found a reasonable bash script from a google search that i cut and pasted for the most part whole) as my masquerade (NAT?) gateway router deally between my home network and the internet cloud.

maybe the students coud end up making something better
yeah, with felony charges they may have the chance to learn how to make license plates...i've been patiently waiting for the day that VHS finally dies. it turned my Betamax into a $600.00 living room clock damn near overnight.
too bad my debian sid desktop is "free beer." if stallman had been planning ahead, i'd have "free ink" instead.
my experience with xebian on my first gen xbox was a disapointment in as much as an NTSC tv sucks as a "computer monitor."
i dunno about stable, but i have had pretty good luck with my sid desktop (many months of no serious breakage)by only upgrading after 6:00 PM CST and only on Sunday evenings.

the u.s. constitution text was only available for viewing in a proprietary file format you needed to buy a license for to just read?
