    Apple has quick time...altogh to me almost as repulsive as the other "major" but definetly better than real...real is the most annoying thing i have ever seen and its not even a decent product...they have quicktime they dont need real...i think real needs to go home and think over there buisnees practices and products...MPlayer and Xine rock i love them bouth and hope windows users get a decent port one day....

    To avoid that many difrent ports could be set up for example you can knock on port 69 and it will redirect you to a random port on a port list.

    splitting microsoft will not solve technical issues it might even make them worse...and on evry other level splitting them will make 2 monopolies...and OS one and an Office one...it will change when people realize there products suck and get something difrent...and it's happening slowly thats a good thing...

    this is not even news...i mean simply look at the history of things with microsoft...they are agressive and brutal and take no prisnors...the the costs of lawsuits and the whole antitrust is buisness expenes to them...this is redundant i know but cmon there buisness practices work very well...i dont think any corprate entity or goverment entity could change there ways...i think the only way is open source...because it can't be killed and since microsoft products are very infirior to almost any alternatives...in time things will change and so will microsoft cuz nothing is permanent and thats the bottom line.

    LoL not at work...at home on my pc...sometimes i glance at it to see what happens...i run alot of stuff on my home pc like that for the sake of learning it.I have apache running just to give files to people i know...thats the way i learn alot of stuff u know poking it.

    I use ethereal as a comprehensive intrusion detection system and i wish to learn more about it...seems like this book is a very good start.

    I don't care what anyone here says i think it is pretty cool to have a docking station for your mp3 player in your car...it would be cool if it played trogh the car speakers... didnt RTFA so i dont know if it does...now somone should do that with a Mini Cooper to match better than explorer.

    I'm sorry you are completly right...i was visulizing the microphones as directional...kinda like light...wich was very stupid of me...i do alot of CAD/CAM so my brain thinks in a directional way by default...yes if theyare not directional you do need 3 non directional points of reception...thank you for correcting me.

    Ok allow my to calrify..you do need 3 points to track X and Y but only 2 mics...the third point dosent have to be a mic it just have to be the point of origin.

    you need 3 points but only 2 mics...look at it this way...take a peace of graph paper and make the bottom horizontal line X and the vertical line one the lef side Y, X zero and Y zero is your point of origin . now position 2 points on your paper for your mics ...you know the corninance of you mics...let say one is one is on X34 Y45 and another is on X69 Y 45 for simplicity sakes now somewhere on our board is a gunshot and the sound wave travel in all the directions from the gunshot at the same spead...you record the sounds and you can calculate the reception of the sound and the difrence in cordinance of your mics ...add your point of origin and you will have a lne from each mic going twards the source of the sound...where they cross is where the sound originated from...so basicly x0 y0 is the third point you need but it does not have to be a mic...it just needs to be a point of where you start your calculations.

    it works with 2 microphone on a 2D map...or X and Y you need 3 if you want all the cordninces x,y,and z, on the ground 2 will do.

    i don't see it as a big privacy concern...it's like saying a licence plate is a security issue...i mean take the tin foil hats off...your cell phone notifys where you are and even if it dosent if the wanna find you or track you they will and you wont even know about it...any type of comunication device can be tracked by triagulation....example is you have 2 microphones 100 yards a part and somone screem or a gun is fiered...as the sound hits the mics at difrent times and based on the location of the mics and the data they recive you can calculate the exact location of the source...same thing can be done to anything like radio waves and other frequincies...if you dont like it then move to garaho land ...other than that no reason to worry.

    well...it is natural for gentoo to be this way...i mean it's not automated...i personally find that a good thing...i guess a seprete flag for emerge to display security fixes and esential bug fixes would not hurt but i personaly can deal without it.

    After you run emerge sync you should run emerge -u -p world it will tell you what you can update...u dont have to do evrything...just pick whatever makes sense...no need to update OpenOfiice.org from 1.1 to 1.1.1 ....but if there is something like ssh or postfix its a good idea to grab those...i mean use common sense...and sense u read slashdot you should know of any BIG remote exploits that apear and emerge fixes for them...but if it work for you dont fix it by emerge -u world....simply not neccesary.

    To do it right the first time dosent always work...we are people...people make mistakes...when we write code it shows...there should be turogh testing and quality control but nothing is pefect..and i belive that a patch should be issued asap and a patch version of the software in question avalable from the distributer of the app in question...the Open source model is a very good example.
