So if you want to criticise us for shipping gcc 2.96, you have every right to do so - you'd be wrong
Whaadaya mean?! Half of what I'm used to building, won't - if this was a rawhide release, then fine, but 7.0?
And has anyone seen any errata pop up for their system on the Red Hat Network? I'd think we'd see them by now....
Perhaps better support - but performance? No way - from what I've seen, Red Hat Linux runs circles around solaris on sparc boxen.
As far as RedHat never being the type of company to do unprofitable things: well - they are a linux distributor in compliance with gpl, which is arguably an unprofitable move in the first place (arguably, I said - this isn't really my opinion), and they are a publicly held company, which by law demands that they do everything they can with their business model to become profitable.
I don't see the big deal here really - if you want to run redhat 7 on a sparc, the sources are available, just compile and upgrade! I'm sure we'll see all the rpm's made available by non-redhat sources anyway.....
I wish that it were easier for people that distribute their own music to open merchant accounts with credit card companies... this should be doable by individuals who could define their own rates and not have to worry about how big of a pie slice they've recieved or if the accounting is accurate. I know that when you put cd's out on consignment to stores that it can be like pulling teeth to get the right amount from the merchant - if the artist could _easily_ be enpowered it would be so much better.
As it is, most music sites set up an alliance deal with amazon and have to sell the whole cd and don't sell all that much... it would be great to have like 45 seconds to a minute of each song on a relase with a checkbox next to it and a credit card form beneath and charge like 35 cents or whatever a song. Yeah, I know there are some sites that do this for multiple artists, I just would like to cut the entities down to artist, consumer, credit card company, and make it easy for the artist to set up....
How can companies like Sega be convinced that products that don't make them money anymore should be made GPL? (from the submitters comment)
Man, that is a dangerous rationale for making something free - if you take, say, the RIAA argument that copyright violations are theft, then what you're basically saying is 'well, people are stealing it - gpl it!'. Uh-Uh. I don't want to see the GPL being some kind of copyright junkyard, I prefer to think of it as moving forward and encouraging progress and development. I love free software, and the spirit in which it is made produced and distributed and would hate to see us giving ammo to 'the other side'....
SGI really does seem to be going after linux. I recently took an rhce test in Dallas and out of 13 people in the class, 11 were from sgi. Kind of a trip.
i suppose that rhythm would carry more weight than harmony in that kind of analysis... like straight ahead jazz can be recognized by swing eith notes, whereas fusion wouldn't swing but would still be modal. or, what is the difference between a three chord ac/dc and alot of the punk stuff... probably tempo and tightness. interesting to ponder....
like, today i'm looking around for the non-remix version of 'Let My Love Open the Door' and have only found it in one place and it's chopped short and glitchy anyway. So, borders here I come.

I just wonder if it would be possible to assert authority - what if nsi wanted to start using.music or something and a small segment of this 'pirate' system was already using it - wouldn't nsi be able to demand relinquishment of it with federally backed authority?
if we can eradicate disease, then let's get rid of disease centers. if we can abolish the need for record companies, then.... i mean, i'm sure that the census bureau and the irs have some wonderful people that work for them, i just don't think that justifies their emplyers loathsome existence.
here's an interesting little tidbit from the transcript: Of the 32,000 new releases each year, only 250 sell more than 10,000 copies. And less than 30 go platinum. Now, how many recording contracts do you think have a recoup point of 10,000 or less? By the way - 150k is considered 'about average' for a major label first release artist contract. Y'know, I read with interest Lar Ulrich's viewpoints on this phenomenon and the reasons for Metallicas reaction to it and thought he had some good points, but the most resonant one to me was basically "we got caught with our pants (label) down and felt we had to do something about it." The something, of course, was a joke - woopty-doo, you disabled my 'account', so I'll change my login name. Bottom line is that the label's need to find a way to embrace new technology and add value to the consumer (as well as artist!) experience if they are going to continue to focus on mechanical. Even then, screw 'em - they screw us, that's for sure.
No way Jose. It _lives_ in the garage, as in there's power out there so that'll be my pinball hang out. Look in your area for one of those arcade game auctions to pop up. I hear there are usually on or two of 'em at each one on the lot. There are like a four of these things a year where I live.
It's funny seeing this article just now. I just this morning got in an argument with my girlfriend because I got a used Black Knight 2000 at an auction while she was out of town. She was like 'no way that fucking machine is going to be in this house'. I put up my best fight, but there was just no way she was having it. It gets to live in the garage now. Abd it does live - you know this if your familiar with this machine. Swear to God. I Love pinball.
does anyone know if apple has ported the quicktime player to os x? as far as the article goes, i don't feel that os x would steal any of linux's thunder, and don't really see how the microsoft breakup is terribly relevant to an intel port of os x. it's an interesting thought though.
Mentioning and pointing at Kevin McMaster's site (are you hoping it will get slashdotted and brought down?) reminds me of that movie Midnight Express where the turkish make the guy an example to american smugglers. Bizarre! "Mess with us and we'll slashdot you, buddy!" I hate spam and direct marketing in general as much as the next person, but wtf?
It seems to me that linux (or any unix) would be the way to go for the visually impaired. Coupled with voice recognition, the command line offers more ease and power than one would find anywhere. I mean, how would a blind person benefit from mac or windows gui? Notoriously cryptic? Not really. You'll need to learn syntax for any os - it seems to me that the most succinct one would be the way to go.....

One wonders what the licensing fee was for that was!

Like it says (at the risk of being redundant):

If you can't find it without me telling you where it is, then you shouldn't be running a Beta Red Hat 7.0

kind of appropriate, really....

Was that expenditure at the truly international HOP in paris?
Everyone hates the way the panel works. To change its size, you have to go into a menu, when you should be able to grap an edge and move it.
Ala windows, eh?
It's hard to put spacers in the panel.
Have you actually gone into the menu to see how easy this is?
Helix is doing some great stuff with enhancing the panel that may address your hatred.
Thomas Jefferson's children he supposedly sired by one of his slaves perhaps?
