Yeah, I think theseguys got us all beat by a long shot. You know, the guys that blamed AIDS on homosexuals and other "evil doers" saying "they deserved it". Funny that Dobson, Falwell, Robertson, Ralph Reed, et al never apologized for their truly hate filled comments they spewed for many years. Oh, here's the definition of "intolerance" to clear up your confusion. BTW, I love the fact that these guys make millions of dollars every year for their own pockets on their flavor of hate speech too.
I'm fine with christians. I have friends that are good christians, kind and a great example to others. That, to me, helps make a good christian and good person. I have a problem when people, like Dobson's "freakfest", decide to tell everyone else how to live their lives. When funds donated for "religious" activities end up lobbying the government to take away established freedoms (like possibly this case in point: taking an obvious trolling, hammering the point home with big-dollar legal firm for possible use in future SLAPP suits).
What you have clearly missed is that someone else is pulling the strings here, not the plaintiff and certainly not the defendants who could possibly be driven to total insolvency.
When you open your eyes to the real world come back and write something worth posting.
Seriously, McGinnis, Lochridge & Kilgore is a very big and very, very expensive firm. I doubt they're taking this suit on a contingent fee unless the kids come from some major legal money. Maybe the plaintiff just has mid five figures to burn through in a few months and wants to make a point (but I doubt that). So who's paying the legal fees right now? I'm thinking of a group that's mostly likely: white, christian and has a general intolerance for anyone or thing different (like the CCA or the FRC). Sorry, but it is Texas and this is America.
Answer this and we'll understand more about the goal of the suit.
You're right, a live distro is a great way to introduce some one to GNU/Linux. I keep handy copies of Ubuntu (i386, PPC and amd64), xubuntu for older machines and Slax on 80mm "mini cds" (a great live distro that also looks great). Just the idea of having a working OS completely on a CD is intriguing enough to get most people give it a spin. It's GNU/Linux selling itself.
An USB flash drive with three LEDS (RGB) that are individually controllable by the host computer. Maybe the driver on the host and a dedicated directory on the flash drive with a configuration file. The idea is the flash drive could alert the user to new email, a weather change (like a tiny, old John Hancock building), whatever they wanted.
So, how hard would this be to develope, how much would it add to the price of a flash drive and is it practical? Would it sell?
And it seems it is. Others including UPI got caught too.
Besides, a point-to-point quantum crypto connection was done around two years ago in Europe. Also the "article" never talks about the one thing you can't do with quantum traffic: route.
(Six years USCG, Marine Boarding Officer and spent some time assigned to the DEA)
The WoD will never be won. Never, ever, ever. If the US Govt can't even keep drugs out of prisons how are going to keep them out of anywhere else? It's all about the money. The money drives the passion to find new ways to maximize profits. The illegal drug industry is incredibly creative. Here's a couple of examples:
- Back in the '80s New Bedford, MA was an entry point for heroin. Larger fishing boats would stuff the drugs in a trash fish (any type of fish with little or no resale valve) out at sea, flash freeze and bury them with their catch. The trash fish and drugs would be quietly put aside while unloading or prepossessing. We're talking a few fish out of hundreds of pounds of catch. Virtually impossible to catch.
- In the Pacific Northwest bails of marijuana are towed behind boats from Canada, sealed and partly weighed down. If they think they're going to get caught they note the position on GPS, cut the line and the bails sink. The weights dragging the bails down are held together with zinc connections that are meant to break in a day or two. The bails re-float and are retrieved.
- Large fishing boats with three fuel tanks. Well, one real and two for the drugs. To conceal the true purpose of these outer tanks they'd seal the sounding tubes and fill partly with fuel. A LEO would check the tank, see it had fuel and assume it was a real fuel tank.
- Submarine found in Colombian Andes. Unreal.
It's a war that can not be won. IMO the solution is to legalize (and tax) marijuana like alcohol and allow MDs to prescribe Schedule I/II/III drugs "for maintenance" of a habit. The latter will greatly help slow the spread of blood born diseases and control dosing (a critical part in helping those addicted in finally stopping their habit).
Prohibition is a total fucking failure. The only proponents are those that make their living off of it: the Police, the rehab industry and those that sell them the tools. Go read Jacob Sullum's landmark book "Saying Yes: In Defense of Drug Use" for an eye openner.
IMO it's just the "flavor of the week" like tripod, geocities, angelfire, yada yada yada were at one time. Soon enough the SNR on myspace will be nothing but lifted clip art and blinking text. Oh wait...
Actually, according to the complaint it appears to have been filed in the Eastern District Court of Texas. Which is interesting given that I think that may be one of the shopping areas for attorneys seeking to get a large judgement against a company.
Quite possibly. Didn't AT&T get broken up in the same court?
Hey, there's lots a reasons to jab at SLC but not because a company not based in Utah (but in Washington DC and Phoenix) filed a lawsuit in a Federal Court that just happens to be in that city. Now if you want to complain about the hookers on State and 400 South, well...
"But the WOD has been 'won'; the vast majority of the people of HST's literary and intellectual caliber are 'too smart' for drugs, and would never even consider mind-altering experiences. And if they did, they'd likely fail the piss test that every employer seems to require."
I think HST saw the same thing: "Bazooko's Circus is what the world would be doing every Saturday night if the Nazis had won the war. This was the Sixth Reich."
America has been the Sixth Reich.
In some areas the WoD has been held back, in every place else it's FUBAR. As a former foot soldier on the WoD in the early 80's I can easily say things are much, much worse. One time I found 10lbs of coke are thought it was the end of the world. These days it's not uncomment to find bigger packs on a weekly basis in most major cities. It's a war that can never be won no matter how much money and bullets you throw at it. We really believe our leaders when they said the WoD would be finished by 1990.
I say lets declare victory, stop arresting users and make the WoD a health crisis. It's the human choice.
For those that would like to videotape someone in which you fear "losing" the tape get a digital tape/memory card camera like the Canon zr series. Simply record the video on the SD card (which on the zr is nicely tucked away) and if your asked for the tape you can fork it over without the concern of losing your footage. Giving up a bogus tape is a great way to get out in one piece and with your booty. Be sure to share it on youtube et al as quick as you can. It's also good to have someone taping you from afar in case there's a problem. Take it from someone that's been there.
Why some people in the field make bad choices those in the office are much less willing to "ask" (nicely or not so) for the video after the fact. Remember, get the video and distribute it as fast as you possibly can.
Hair spray can do the same thing. You also could run the plate through a quick etching dip. Unfortunataly most states have laws about altering plates. I suspect a couple of nasty IR LEDs attached near the regular license lights might be enough to mess up a camera without running afoul of the law.
Couldn't you just set up a few IR LEDs around the plate (or one big one drilled into the center of the plate) to flood out the picture? I'm guessing these systems use a camera that normally records in the IR spectrum by default. It can't be that easy but...
Really. The more companies (clearly MS didn't start copy protection in the PC world so I can't blame just them) that pull stunts like this on critical software, the easier it is for me to push FOSS and GNU/Linux. While some apps still have an ultra-loyal following (like PS and as it should) others don't like IMO MS Windows. I'm sure this thought drives some of the ultra smart people at MS (of which there are tons) crazy when someone suit brings in a problem child as WGA. Just one more reason to bail.
It's the free market baby. Let MS did their own hole and possible get themselves out.
Lie, Whitewash, Stonewall. Rinse, Repeat. These are dark days. And we still have two and a half years to go.
Modded as a Troll? I guess Dick Cheney got some mod points. =)
The sad thing is that my strangely named friend is correct. "Lie, Whitewash, Stonewall." accurately describes the MO of the Bush administration on the current NSA spy issue, GITMO, "extraordinary rendition" and many others.
Welcome to the neocon's amerika. Maybe someone could call the UN and ask for some troops on the ground to help us. I was going to tick the "Post Anonymously" box but suspect the "powers that be" already have running access to/. servers. Hey, if I lacked morals I too would use/. records as a "snitch book".
Maybe I'll check it for one last time. Maybe not since Moby didn't.
I use to hate BG as much as the next person ("Burn [him] like a witch if I wasn't afraid of the fumes" - Drew Cary) but it seems to me that he is placing the same effort that he did into making MS into a "success" now with his foundation. Granted IMO it's being done with stolen funds but still if he can do to TB what he did to Lotus 1-2-3 he has to be thanked. If he's known for anything it's "hell or high water, he'll get the job done".
Bill Gates reminds me of William Bulger: Brilliant, cunning, a great person to have on your side and a devastating enemy to have against you. Glad those guns are pointed towards HIV and TB.
Maybe it's time to separate the BG of MS and the BG of the Gates Foundation. It's seems he has.

Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner! And just to back you up everyone should go watch The History of Marijuana narrated by Woody Harrelson.

Good comment NixLuver.
It's a must read: "The Kentucky Derby is Decadent and Depraved". Personally I blame the decline on the lack of good drugs. =)

Sweet. Now I wonder if it will possile to underclock a meron enough to go fanless?
Any chance of anyone making an ITX board to use one? It seems it would be well suited for that task too.

Noscript might fix that. That and Privoxy. If running privoxy is not practical then adblock as suggested by others.
