They wouldn't release it officially for free because they are selling (renting) $999 Intel Developer Kits, and who would buy those if you could just get the whole thing for free?
I know this will be lost in the ~300 other posts already made; and I'm sure what I'm about to say was already said by 100 other people, but...
I'm a linux user, since kernel.99 on slackware. I just bought my first mac earlier this year. It has the best of both (free and non-) worlds. I can run all the free software I want. I can run all the commercial software I want. Think just work, without having to mess around with config files. That was fun at age 18, but not anymore. I can still tweak if I want to, but I don't HAVE to.
Plus, the GUI is the best windowmanager in the universe, maybe next to SGIs 4DWM.
vive la revolution!
Wicked... yeah I dont want my city or state govt putting up wifi, like I said the roads around here are BAD.
I was just worried that they were trying to say, only SBC could provide wifi, which I guess now that I think about it, all those Tmobile starbucks...
Ok, so I was overreacting. I just wasn't sure if coop wifi was also a target.
Wahoooo little doggies!
(And, no America, Texans don't ride horses to work.)
I love the world's Texas-stereotypes...
I live in Texas and I'm pissed about this; let's say a citizen group wanted to band together and put wifi APs in their homes, prividing coverage for an area of a city; I wonder if this would be outlawed by this bill.
I don't really want my city providing wifi, I want them to fix all the terrible roads; but I also don't want my government to sell out to corporate interest (ok, yes I *know* they already are!)
Actually troll, what? How is that incorrect? When echo test | mail root@127.0.0.1, the message is correctlry received.
I love how you fucking people on/. gotta nerly 1up one another
fuck yuou
Tactile would mean that the surface changes how it feels to the user. This is a touchscreen PDA basically. If it were tactile, different elements would actually feel differently on the screen.
There is no spoon;) Sorry I couldn't resist.
No, it's not a question of "You must feed at the teet of ONE OF THESE TWO:
- Corporate Media
- Jello Biafra"
That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying, look at any corporate media outlet, and many are fed from the same source. I said NOTHING about Michael Moore, or the government, or Bush, or ANYTHING ELSE!
What I am saying is: There are issues that go unaddressed by corporate media. There are viewpoints that are somehow not covered by corporate media. One point JB is trying to make is this:
BECOME THE MEDIA.
It is up to anyone that chooses to undergo that endeavor to bring to light anything they want. They could be completely FOR the current administration, that's fair.
In other words, if you have something to say, SAY IT ALREADY!
That is all. Sheesh, just because you have an inferiority complex about being on the right, doesn't mean that everyone not on the right is wrong!
I would have to say the hacker ethic would be something along the lines of "Learn what is interesting to you" with a bit of "Damn the man" thrown in for good measure.
Information wants to be free [as in speech].
Jello's talks usually focus on 'media hacking,' meaning that one becomes a source of media to introduce non-mainstream ideas to the public. His ideas on this topic are still releevant, especially today when US media consumers are all being fed from the same spoon.
The iPod functions like a removeable harddrive, and can be accessed frm any machine. I believe some models are formatted with HFS [the Mac filesystem] and others are FAT32 [or similar].
Nokia cellphones [and I'm sure those from other manufacturers] have flash media slots in them that can accept memory at least up to 1GB in size. And with bluetooth connectivity, you could easily transfer data from your machine to cellphone, without even having to have the device in plain view.
I don't need the mp3s for listening to in my portable HD audio player, as it already supports wavs.
noPods are nice looking, but I find others to be more convenient. I like being able to drag/drop or "mount/iriver; cp mp3s/*/iriver/mp3s" on my win or nix machines respectively.
I can't believe this is a story on/.
Ok yeah the two systems copy and paste differently. If you want both systems to behave the same, then won't they just BE the same? Then you should upgrade from whatever unix you're using to Windows.
It is not hard at all to remember that in my Windows apps, it's CTRL-[CV], and in that terminal window I'm running it's highlight/click.
Here's my submission for Ask/. -
"Dealing with Unix File Management"
I Hate that I have to remember it's "rm" on unix and "del" on Windows. Any words of wisdom?
I would never get online on April 1st anymore, it's getting b0r1n6!
If this isn't a joke, it's the GH3Y357 thing ever, and I hope your child becomes a maladjusted seial killer that starts with you.
"whereas Slashdot features more in-depth and technical discussions"
Uhhh if you mean linux-zionist dogmatism, then yes.
Sadly enuff, I could care less about your ghey online naming problems
