    How do you read for long with tri-focals? I have progressive lens and get a painful crick in my neck looking at a monitor for more than a few minutes. I have a pair of single strength readers I keep by my computer and also wear them while reading my tablet. I have an original Nook but my daughter keeps it with her so I rarely get to use it.

    Like that is going to happen. No capitalist is going to willingly give up his wealth. There is enough for everyone to have some but the fight to see who divides it up will be brutal.

    That's well and good IF you can afford to buy technology. If technology takes your job and there is no social welfare structure in place you will sicken and die exposure and starvation in a hobo camp. The machines will not care. Capitalist only want you for your money. If you can't add to the bottom line you are a liability to be eliminated.

    We could go to a Soviet Union command economy. With computers and gps tracking everyone could be given a job and the system would know if they actually showed up for work. Put a Berlin Wall type barrier along the southern boarder to keep unwanted workers out. Collage students could "volunteer" to pick crops at harvest time. With all business owned by the system products would be produced as needed and there would be no need for CEOs to maximize stock prices. Seems to be working in North Korea, we could give it a try.

    No one has mentioned the DIY channel's "Holmes on Homes" show. He's a licensed contractor who repairs the mistakes and shoddy construction done to peoples homes. This show is based in Canada but American contractors do the same things. They never name the original contractor but in one show the wiring job was so bad the licensed electrician brought in to fix it said he was going to government building codes department and get the other guy's license pulled. Makes me glad I'm skilled enough to do my own home repairs.

    It's called a table. Rest tablet on table with an adjustable stand to hold tablet at proper viewing angle. I have carpel tunnel damage to my hands and can't hold a book or a tablet for long. I sit in a comfortable chair and read for hours with no more effort then a slight flick with my finger to "turn" the pages.

    Isn't it time for the rest of the world to fund their own R and D. India's middle class is as large as the U.S.'s. China has a growing middle class and many billionaires. The Euro zone still has resources. Let all of them develop the next generation of advances. We can than ride their coat tails for a while and expand social programs for Americans with the savings. Or do you think Americans are much smarter than those foreigners?

    One can not do anything, many voting for the right people could.Tariffs, import restrictions, banking and international money transfer laws would help keep business local. Unfortunately the ones who would lose money from these restrictions have bought our elected officials so that wont happen.

    Style over substance. We in the U.S. have to live under Obama's rule, the rest of you just see a few pictures on TV. If 1.5 million had switched their votes Obama would have lost, that's a slim victory margin. Half of the states have Republican governors. Americans are almost equally divided on what type of government we want but the two sides are far apart.

    The electric fuel pump for your car is inside the gas tank. High pressure hydraulic hoses can easily withstand 5000 psi. Pumping diesel up thirty or fifty floors would be no problem. Have the vent opening 50 feet above flood level and the only thing you need worry about is the tank floating up as it empties.

    Canada, 9 people per sq mile, U.S., 84 per sq mile. That's nine times the wealth producing natural resources per person. Take away the African decedents with their genetic health problems and the poor immigrant population and our life expectancy and infant mortality rates are about the same.

    The trouble is most geeky kids are not athletic and get bullied for being inept. With determination, and a few karate lessons, that can be overcome. As an adult you can socialize with your equals life is fun again.

    If your children are very bright with no social skills, chances are that's the way you are to. If you don't have social skills how can you help them? The only reason I was able to have children was their future mother had enough social skills to ask me out. My children aren't geniuses but one has a PhD and the other a law degree.

    A high percentage of students do not graduate high school, much less go to collage. Schools that concentrate of the 25% of students who will go on to attend collage ignore the futures of the of the other 75%. Most of the people you (we) depend on every day did not go to collage. The truck driver that delivers everything you eat, gasoline for your car, the car itself. People who staff restaurants, serve coffee, fix your ac, keep your car running.

    Facial recognition cameras at every school entrance. Non students, even one with a stolen ID, are barred from entry. You say that violates their privacy, it's a public school. If you want privacy go to a private school.

    My 21 year old son was playing games on my computer when he was 3. Now he is the go to guy for computer problems in his social group. He has no problem finding girlfriends. The fact that he bears a strong resemblance to Robert Pattinson and plays electric guitar might have something to do with that thought.
