That healthcare isn't free, those taxes are the way you pay for it. You're buying both civilization and health care, doesn't your chest just swell with pride?
So when Henry Ford built his model T the government went a bopped ever horse in the head so people had to buy cars? And all those wagon trails were blocked off so the government could cut new roads through the forest? And of course Congressional Oil built all those filling stations. Did those same congressmen bust the sod on those farms where much of our food is grown?
Tell me someone who doesn't benefit from our highway system. Almost all our food, freight, and fuel is shipped by trucks, what little that goes by rail or air was driven to the station or airport in a truck. Everyone just pays their fair share, one way or another. Those first responders find it real handy when they can just drive up to your house and save your a**.
Agree with you 100% but they have changed the definition of subsidy. Now if you are not forced to pay a tax that others do pay YOU are being subsidized by them, so tax exemptions are now also subsidies. Welcome to the twenty-first century and newspeak.
These bond traders are using other peoples' money to buy bonds. They are using the money the rich have made by off shoring jobs and having tax cuts. If the U.S. defaults on theses bonds we can just consider it recapturing taxes they should have paid anyway, nothing needs to, or will be, paid back anyway. Just keep your cash out of the bond market, silver and gold look good to me.
Our military spending is the largest jobs program in the world. Cutting it in half would eliminate three million high paying jobs. Every congressman, Democrat and Republican, has some of those jobs in his district. They are never going to cut military spending one dime.
Europeans get all snooty about speaking two or three languages. Of course they have to, every road sign is in three or four languages and if you miss your turn off on the way home you drive across two borders and have to show your passport before you can turn around. I know two measuring systems, quart or liter, yard or meter, I can convert to what ever fits best. It's like irregular verbs or word gender, you just know which one is right.
I remember a market crash that happened within weeks of Bush's first inauguration. I think somebody's bubble burst. Then some unfortunate event in September of 2001. By 04 collections were rising to 832B(billion), then 935B, 1024B, 1116B, a small drop to 1032B in 2008, than a huge drop to 866B in 2009. I know something bad happened in 2008 to cause that but I can't remember what. Figures provided by the Internal Revenue Service.
I would like to know how much the Bush tax rate cuts cost us. Obama wants to keep the cuts on incomes below $250000. How much will that cost us? Yes, Bush spent too much, Obama is on track to spend even more. Is the only cure for overspending more overspending?
Fiber runs BY MY HOUSE, AT&T wont hook it up. I talked to an AT&T worker, he told me they don't want to invest any more in land lines, they want to go all wireless, it's much more profitable. I have disconnected my land line and use a Verizon cell phone.
I can't get dsl service even though there is a central office within two miles of my house in either direction. I spoke to an AT&T serviceman who was working in one of the enclosures. He told me the other central office was the one that supplied my phone service and it was too antiquated to support dsl! Then he tells me fiber already runs past my house and in a year (or two) AT&T is supposed hook everyone up, maybe. Until then I will have to use low cap, high cost (17gigs for $80 a month) satellite service.
After you equated tax rates with tax revenues I could no longer respect any thing you wrote. When Bush cut tax rates did revenues go up, or down. If lower tax rates are bad why does Obama want to keep Bush's tax cuts for incomes below $250000?
I find it curious that the group responsible for starting all this foolishness is still in existence, despite past and present attempts to eradicate them. In fact they flourish and are probably the richest group on Earth. It's like some supernatural force is protecting them.
That doesn't mean it's a good idea. After any crises Congress flails about trying to "do something", even if it's wrong, and if that is not effective, spend twice as much. It will be interesting in a macabre sort of way to see what happens when the money supply runs out. I'm afraid we wont have long to wait.
The TSA is not supposed to catch terrorist, they are a deterrent. All the stories about over the top inspections sends the message, the TSA will catch you, no need to even try. While some objects have gotten by them, no actual terrorist act has been attempted since the TSA was implemented. Personally, they could all go home . I don't fly and those that do can take their chances.
No, if girls find you attractive and you don't notice it, you are also a nerd. When the smoking hot, blonde, solo majorette, who's locker is directly above yours, dumps her damp gym clothes on your head every day for a week and all you do is get annoyed, you are a nerd. I know she was interested in because my brother was in one of her class and she ask him if he thought I would like to ask her out. When he told me that I asked him "You knew she wanted to go out with me AND YOU DIDN'T TELL ME! The next time I saw her she was with another guy;(
My two oldest children were in gifted classes while in school. Now one is a PhD and the other is a lawyer. The gifted tests must have measured the right things.
Locked cabinets have keys. Devious, demented white males will be able to find the keys and still commit mass murder. Nothing short of a TSA type intervention will come close. All gun collections must be banned. Every homeowner will be allowed one gun and no more than 10 bullets. Any other guns will have to be stored at an armory or target range. House to house searches will be conducted to insure compliance, starting in the best neighborhoods because most shooters are middle class white males. The survivalist types will hide their weapons but that is fine, if the police can't easily find them the mentally ill can't either.
Of course criminals will still have guns but they rarely kill more than one or two people and are not problem being addressed.
Maybe tri-focals have a wider viewing angle then my progressives. I can only see one line of text in focus at a time. I use a pair of cheap readers for the computer and put my regular glasses back on to watch television. I have 62 inch so I don't have any trouble doing that. I have the Kindle app for my Galaxy 10.1 and get free or cheap eBooks from Amazon. It's hard to search for books on the Nook and there are much fewer free or low price selections.
I missed out on the jungle warfare thing, I spent my time in the engine room on a destroyer. Fun times.
Yes, that's me. I'm disabled and spend 10-12 hours a day on my laptop. I use an old C 840 Dell with a 4:3 screen. It's nice and bright and has a high contrast.
White man build big fire, keep warm hauling wood, Indian build small fire, sit close, keep warm. Fixed that for ya.

Of course that is a feature, not a bug.

You don't think the Somalia's and Afghanistan's ethnicity and religion have any thing to do with that?

Thanks for clearing that up.

I have done exactly that. Down on their luck family, not strangers, but all the bed rooms in my house are occupied.

My karma is positive, apparently I've been forgiven for my Statue of Liberty post. I deeply regret what I wrote.
