Diversity may not mean that there are multiple opinions to which I agree. However it also does not means that you go on demeaning and degrading a group of peopl on name of "political correctness". That is the status of slashdot. Racist opinions like a day I mean an Indian worker who was not good and hence I conclude that all Indian workers are rubbish abound and not moderated. There is no shame in slashdot on fact that most educated Americans on this forum and other places have stooped down to a level that they cherish live shows where Indian call centre workers are abused. They suggest to others that they should greet an Indian worker with racial slurr.
Finally the forum moderated by Americans refuses to see a mirror. Posts which point to the rampant racism in slashdot are immediately mod down.
Eclipse is doing another microsft: success on looks and marketing. Netbeans beats eclipse on functionality. Eclipse is nothing more than an advanced editor that provides code completion, integrated debugging and looks good. For any serious JAVA work , e.g., J2EE, J2ME work eclipse is useless. Getting code completion in JSP, and debugging J2EE apps to work is a pain in eclipse. Eclipse lacks the support for template applications that make it so easy to start the work. For all serious JAVA functionality eclipse depends on plugins. And well-supported plugins are rare. Netbeans provides tightly integrated support for J2EE and J2ME along with the option of extending the IDE using plugins.
It seems that you have never worked in an outsourcing environment !! It seldom happens that questions are ping-ponged like you are talking about. Most Indian companies have a representative on the american/british side whose responsibility is to resolve such problems. The Indian team mebers talk to this person on phone/conference call and he resolves the issue with his american team members.
Let the slashdot readers go back to blasting the Indians and the asians. How pathetic and incompetent they are, if it was not about the prize they would not get anything to do, we are so great they are so bad, blah blah blah.....
Netbeans has an awsome J2EE support. It has a fully featured JSP editor and has the ability to launch and debug web apps from inside the IDE. The J2EE support is installed along with the IDE. Eclipse plugins suggest that they can do the same. However I had a tough time configuring these plugins with partial success only.
Netbeans has a very good support for J2ME apps through mobility pack.
Netbeans has lots of sample applications that make learning easy.
Netbeans has an integrated catalogus of useful design patterns which is very handy.
I guess you did not read my original posts. The company pays the same amount to the staffing firm for theses tasks that it will pay to an American worker. If American workers want premium rates for doing maintenance in an global economy the I can only say: dream on !!

The H-1B Swindle
·
· Score: 2, Insightful
The report does not accounts for the fact that the money that a company pays for a H1B worker to a staffing firm is exactly the same that it will pay to an employee.
Most of the H1B workers in USA are recruited though a staffing firm. The staffing firm does the visa for the worker and brings them over to USA. The staffing firm then sends the worker as a contractor/consultant to the companies where he actually works. The company pays the market rate to the staffing firm. However the staffing firm (bodyshopping firms) take a major cut from that money and that is why your H1B worker gets paid less.
If you really care about the state of the foreign workers on H1B, then come to terms with the fact that they are required for worker/skill shortage in your economy which does exceedingly well by trading globally. The worker shortage might not be reflected by the employment figures as there are many jobs (code coolie types like maintainence, porting etc) that American workers do not want to do. Who does them ? Your underpaid H1B worker. Why is he paid less ? He has been targetted and potrayed as low cost job foreign job snatcher, because of which companies are reluctant to recruit him directly. So if you want to talk about ethics, then stop this diatribe against the foreign H1B worker.
I will always have a soft corner in my heart for sun. Sun's java language made it possible for many developers from developing countries to compete in the commercial software market. Free JAVA meant that it was easy to learn the language. No question that the open-source tools like tomcat were the other barrier breakers.
Sun always had been a company with a scoial conscience, dontaing hardware and software to colleges all over the world. It is nice that they have finally accepted the market trends (like x86) and decided to go with them.
You can not target people. Because all the people are not involved in the crime you are trying to fight. However by tagetting the people a) you are alienating them which is in a way harmful to your nationa's security. b) You have not been the target of the so called random searches at american airports. Almost more than 90 % of the time I am being stopped and searched. Most of my friends who are dark skinned as me and have to travel to USA because of work share this experience. And trust me the search is not pleasant. Most of the officers can be extremely rude and discourteous. And the experience of being hassled by police in a foreign countryu just because of your skin colour is the crowning glory.
The granny example is an extreme one. If security is an issue all of the people should eb made to go thru the same security procedure like they do in countries like Indian. No one should be made an exception.
Do you belief that all the young muslims are engaged in this ? Trust me I am not a muslim and have the misfortune of being dark skinned because of which almost all the security guys at the airport stop me and search me. So do not bother the security of your nation is good.
Is it not possible that you have a prejudice against the Indian/Paki service desk rep (pretty much reflected in your post) which was reflected in your conversation with him because of which you got a bad service ?? American reps can be equally bad if u r not polite to them !!
American prosperity is because it can do business in all the countries of the world. You can go back to medieveal ages (like britishers did) and force these countries to leave there markets open for america and at the same time do not let any american jobs go there. Is it not this that u want ??
WHy don't you enlighten the people who do not have the misfortune of working with folks from Bangalore/Hyderabad/etc ?
God!! You guys have such a complex!!
What is the point you are trying to make here ? American companies and programmers can be equally bad. Why do u think that so many other companies are still outsourcing , if there work is not getting done??
On what basis you are making your observation that "5 Bangalore programmers..take to replace on US programming resource". Your comment is not based on any logic or experience and is simply racist.
In some cases the Indian companies allocate more resources than desired to get the job done properly because they can afford it and they value there customers.
Is is amazing how so many techincal people on this forum are afraid of competition. In this forum there have been so many sly reference to hiring programmers based on merit and not on skill. DO YOU GUYS BELIEVE THAT MOST OF THE COMPANIES WHO GET THERE WORK DONE IN INDIA WILL BE THERE IF THEY DID NOT RECEIVE QUALITY ? YOU GUYS ARE JUST DREAMING !!! Almost all the big American corporations get there work done in India. They are demanding customers and get quality and value for money because of which they stay there. If you guys really feel that Indian programmers are not up to the mark then you should have a look at your universities research programs and see how it is dominated by Indians and Chinese !!
A lot of people on this forum has correctly observed that outsourcing to India is perhaps not that cheap. I think it is true. I find it pathetic that instead of competing on merit and skill, most of the people in this forum are concenterating more on invoking jingoistic sentiments. There have been tons of posts questioning the skills of an Indian programmer.
The post includes a comment about "going to India" for training your replacement. I think it should be clarified what this training is. It is nothing more than a handover. Just telling the new person where the stuff is. The handover is a part of professional etiquete and an american programmer is all welcome not to do that.

The racist, xenophobic and jingoist slur's that is posted now a days in slashdot and digg makes me doubt that there is any censorship in these forums.
But then wait who r the moderators !!

Used it today and it messed up my X server.

I have not tried it profiler .
It is wrong to presume that the programmers in Bangalore are B and C grade programmers. Many good Indian programmers stay back home.

If you are on centrino then probably may try the native linux driver.
