I understand that the inherent difficulty in testing sociological theory dictates that it will forever remain speculation.

Since the parent of this sub-thread gave the air of a learned sociologist, I was hoping the poster could tell me the name of the theory's author.

Surely you understand the absurdity in googling 'Human Sexuality'. I seriously would like to do more research, but, being a lay-person in sociology I need more help than Google. Were the topic in an area I am more accustomed to researching, I would not have posted a reply in the first place.

Thanks for the useful reply... I was hoping for some insight into where the idea came from, not your inane comment.

Seriously though, I'm not a sociologist, point me in a direction so that I can hope to understand.

I'm interested in the second part of your comment: "In order to maximize the emotional impact (and hence the indirect financial value) of exposing their own breasts, American women demand a ban on all public sensual exposures of female breasts."

Is this speculation or is it an actual sociological theory?

Ok, so it's a superficial observation, but based on the author's picture in his blog, he appears to be an older fellow. Naturally people tend to slow down as they get older. I guess it makes me wonder if he cannot increase his performance anymore simply due to the fact that he has reached HIS limits, not humanity's limits. It's awfully bold of him to insinuate that he's an example of humanity's peak performance.

That said, perhaps in the current state of computers - interface with keyboard and mouse with a monitor for visual display - we have peaked. Do I think we will never experience a surge in productivity? I'm not that pessimistic about the abilities of our species.

Except for the fact that you're a vindictive water utility worker, you're also correct. THMs are likely less harmful than Arsenic in your water, if Arsenic is present in measurable quantities at all.

My argument is that it's like worrying about dieing from ebola virus when the common cold is much more likely to take your life. That's all. You may now dismount from your high horse.

Activated Carbon is best utilized in removing large organic molecules.

Removing ions in water is best done through reverse osmosis. It can also be accomplished - to a small extent - using coagulants such as Ferrous Chloride or Aluminum Sulfate.

Arsenic is a common contaminant of surface water supplies that occurs naturally. Often times a source is so contaminated by natural arsenic that the source has to be abandoned.

Generally, arsenic is not the most important contaminant in drinking water. In fact, chlorination of surface water often results in contaminants that are worse than what's in the raw water. Trihalomethanes (THMs) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trihalomethane are formed from a reaction of free chlorine and organic compounds.

This nanorust process would probably have wider application in treatment of industrial wastewater rather than drinking water.

    I agree, wholeheartedly.

However, the submitters will have to traul through various sources such as PubMed or Journal websites rather than a common news-based website to find articles of merit. No small task since the odds of finding something interesting as opposed to the regular tedium is rather low.

In essence, the interesting articles are the ones that are sensationalised. And then ones that are sensationalised don't stir up any intelligent debate - only wisecracks about Neanderthals.
