And, furthermore, it has far less to do with how many servers are dishing out HTTP stuff on the Internet, and much more on how many servers are doing so on internal Intranets.
Web servers are business tools and the most critical ones in use point inward at 'captive' corporate desktops. And in that market 'segment' IIS is doing pretty good.
Windows can easily have X. You can download and install Cygwin for free. You could have bought Interix with Exceed (now a more or less crippled bundle owned by Microsoft, but when I bought it, it was a full POSIX environment with the GNU toolchain and a full native X implemented, with Motif license and libraries and what-not)
X is just a bolt-on addition. Yes, I have shelled into Windows NT boxes from Solaris workstations and ran X apps native on the NT kernel, and displayed on a Solaris desktop.
but if there is a hole in Mozilla, it will still only have the access rights that the user has.
On my computer, and probably on yours, and most other people's computers, the only info that is important (the stuff that didn't come off a distribution CDROM of some sort) is stuff I have read/write access to.
Ask anybody who uses Linux if he cares if his dotfiles and home directory get wiped.
There have been significant holes discovered that were there for years. Not widely known, but everybody knows that if you're serious about making use of exploits, you keep it to yourself (and your organization if you're in one) and don't yell about it to the world.
Each and every significant hole that's been discovered in OSS has probably been exploited for a time.

All I can remember is the IBM Ad, in which 'Linux' was symbolized by a little prodigy kid who everybody was lecturing at.
I've always fantasized about somehow cutting in on their signal and shaking the engine block off the frame with subsonics. Which isn't realistic at all.
It's not wether you are 'dumb' enough to put it on the Internet. It's wether some ecommerce site you frequented one day is 'dumb' enough to do so, with your number and info.
you sound like a fascist conservative that thinks terrorism is scaring old white men, but lynching black people to put them in their place is a couple good ol' boys out having a little fun.
It would be a good idea for you to look beyond your stereotypes and prejudices. You can only campaign politically against real people, not the phantom-opponents in your head.
I mean, get real. Meet some real people. Stop believing in the parody conservatives you read about in The Nation and various other political organs.
You can get a Republican Party membership card by donating a nominal amount of money. And interestingly, from that point on they send you a 'membership card' in a fundraising letter about once a year, hoping to get you to contribute.
Teresa first married a Republican, then a Democratic senator.
Hell, J F'n Kerry has a lot to learn from her about flip flopping. (I prefer J-K Master-Slaves myself, because they can be strapped to serve as most of the other kinds)
If you don't like classes being used to differentiate people, go take it up with the Republicans. They are running the government that classifies people in such a manner.
The politicians who I support (mostly Republicans, btw) are the ones actively trying to shut down the parts of government that meddle and classify and try to social engineer.
Be careful, because you sound like someone who advocates 'affirmative action' and 'hate crime laws', which are essentially neo-Apartheid.
Believe me, speaking as someone who once was the one who ignited an effigy of a University President in front of an Administration building, it's all about 'feeling hardcore and cool.'
'Issue of the week' politics is fun for awhile. Hopefully one grows out of it.
Believe it or not, the Secret Service are busy right now making sure Kerry doesn't get plugged with some lead, too.
Furthermore, the level of professionalism of the SS is far greater than 'the police.' If you're ever busted, hope its by the 'highest level' police possible. The police force in Podunk aren't as likely to be ethical in their actions as the feds.
And there are excellent photographs out there of Hubert Humphrey (a virulent anti-communist) hot and sweating in Vietnam in support of the South Vietnam government. He looks like an angry beached whale in a white tee-shirt in the shot I remember seeing at least once.
Many parochial schools would go out of business if they didn't have nuns donating their labor as teachers. They're professional educators, even if they work for pennies. Much the same here, except it's a different religion they have vowed to.
HP has sales channels into retail markets that 'stink of uncool,' meaning places where regular people spend money. Apple has limited exposure in said markets.

But this sounds pretty good.
Still, nothing wrong with helping Darwin along some.
Hey dudes! Go stand by the speaker. It's cool!
(that chick over there looks like she'd be impressed if you did it)
When people like you get old, they wear hearing aids.
Have fun.
And here I thought we were all morally relativistic and non-judgmental. Evil?

NetBSD is likely already seeing extensive use in the Military. It embeds without a trace.
There's no reason for anybody to even know if it is or not. Which some people consider cool, other people not.
It's been a long, long time since I saw the bounded (8.3) directory name that used to appear on the good ol' Slackware CD back in the day.
Slackware still rocks. (started running it back with Kernel 1.2.13)

We need more foul scatologists like you out there yelling in favor of Kerry. Keep it up. If you need some money to buy a bullhorn just ask.

I'm sort of scared of what some of the nuttier fringe on the left is gonna do when W is re-elected. Will they try to destablize the whole country?
You don't have to be that skilled. Heat up iron, poke at the LED. You don't even have to open the case.
Heh.
...a little square of Black Electrical tape does fine.
You can probably find a little patch of sticker in whatever color needed to match any device you want to block out.
Nixon kept it going longer than it should have,
You're confusing Johnson and Nixon, dude.
The 'Kennedy withdrawl myth' is just that.

This is all ancient history, of course.
Where did I ever say they were 'paid' in coin?
