I'm talking about 10-25 man content. 5-mans can't be built to force specs or else you'd exclude players completely from the zone.
Our approach is pretty open minded. Instead of saying 'All priests must be disc/holy' we actually want the tools each tree brings to a raid. However, because of this, we can't accomodate as MANY people of a given spec. I have 3 priest spots. Ideally I have a disc priest, a holy priest, and a shadow priest. If I already have a holy priest in group, I don't want another one because the raid gains nothing it doesn't already have.
We don't force specs on our members, but we don't guarantee raid slots either. Spec how you like, but be aware we want our raid to consist of XYZ. If your place in XYZ is filled by someone else already, don't expect an invite.
They don't hit web backends. They hit small DB's that are stored in the addon and loaded ingame at launch. Info doesn't enter the game via an addon unless the game is re-launched.
The only way to get dynamic data from an external source on the fly is to constantly reload your UI via console (triggering a loading screen) or to use something that violates TOS and can get you banned.
Seriously, find a guild that allows you to play the way you want to play. You'll be happier. Besides, the top instances now don't require the huge raiding guilds anymore. You don't need the specially built guilds who only allow certain narrowly constructed types in. No, you don't need a huge guild. However, with smaller raid groups, there is more pressure on the individual player to be specced right. For example, If I'm taking 3 priests into a raid, I'm going to want 2 disc/holy and 1 shadow. I MIGHT be flexible and take 1/2 instead, but that depends on other healers and the encounter. I won't take 3/0 or 0/3. I need the capabilities of both specs. This applies to pretty much all hybrids, and some of the 'pure' classes.
If you want to be successful, you need ALL tools available to your raid. That means all specs represented.
I noticed how much the site chugged at work yesterday. But when I got home it was like butter on safari. Perhaps it was time of day, or the network. I don't know. Just some anecdotal observations.
I don't play this game, but I imagine that it would put people at a significant disadvantage in many situations. Trolls could find weaker players and go kill them easily. Yeah, because doing '/who Level MyLevel' is soooo difficult.
Breaking it up into two pages can give you a bit more information:
Page 1 hits = number of people who got to your article Page 2 hits = Number of people who actually read the thing.
If you have a content writer who may have a lot of hits on page 1, but significantly fewer hits to subsequent pages then you know people don't want to finish reading what he wrote. If all you had was page 1 hits then you would lose this metric.
Let me clarify. In the context of 'hardcore end-game raiding' the levelling is simply an obstruction. Making the levelling process take longer does not make it hard, it makes it tedious.
Your comments don't comment on the difficulty of the levelling process, but on the content that is available while you do it. You may get the same XP questing as you do killing 1000 basement rats. But the questing is far less tedious, and to many people that equates to easier.
What is boils down to is that some people think that levelling in WoW doesn't suck enough. If you're not suffering through your levels then the game is too easy. screw that. But again, the people who want it to be hard are the same people who see end-game as 'real' game, and with that being the case, who gives a rats ass how long it takes to get to max level?
10% per death, as well as durability lost from general use. If you take a spirit rez, it damages everything you have by 50% (I think) which is pricey, and even worse if you carry multiple sets of gear. Plus, the better gear has more durability, and is more expensive to repair. Our tanks faced daily repair bills in the 15-20g range when we were learning new content. Considering that raiding isn't really high income to begin with, that's painful over time.
Difficulty? WoW is made for casual gamers. I've gotten an alt to level sixty (pre BoC) in less than 96 hours played time. Considering the game doesn't start until max level, how is this even relevant?
Community? In EQ, you were forced to group, unless you played one of a handful of classes. Being forced to interact with other people built up a sense of community. All I saw in WoW were random names that happened to be going the same places I was. There is plenty of content in WoW that can't be solo'ed. Is there a reason not to have ANY content that can be soloed? Supporting group play is good. Forcing group play is bad.
Competition? The prevalence of instancing in WoW basically destroyed the idea of competition. All that you have is who is first to beat new content. There's no more racing for big named mobs, which was part of the fun of EQ, imo. My roommate used to be in a hardcore raiding guild in EQ1 as a cleric. He was telling me how he would be woken up at 3am to log in because a boss spawned. Perhaps I'm just not hardcore enough, but I don't see that as fun. At all.
Then there are UMS (scenarios basically) created by other players to add new content. Since you aren't paying blizzard for these, you can't include them in a comparison. 7 years of player generated free content is not the same as 7 years of developer generated and supported content.
Basically, the players found a way to extend the shelf life of the game with Starcraft, but with WoW, the developer did it for them.
Max level != hardcore.
significant time investment = hardcore.
The game has been out for two years. Even the most casual, sporadic player could have hit 60 before the expansion if they didn't get sidetracked. 60-70 is a cakewalk in BC, and a lot more fun.
Btw, I can't get to the thottbot link at work, but I bet it's the Exotic Spiked Shoulders.
Especially living with someone like this who would sell her "child" out so quick. You can imagine what living with that sort of "parent" would have been like.
Sounds like she was involved here for several years, I guess you can consider that 'quick' but most reasonable people wouldn't.
Speaking from experience, my sister is like this kid. This girl put my parents through 18 years of pure hell, was a contributing factor in their divorce and my mothers alcoholism. She currently is unable to hold any job, but has two illegitimate children. The kids do not even have proper beds to sleep on, but child services will not remove them from her custody. My mother offered to adopt them, and she refused to give up custody. This girl leeches off my father at age 22. She spends her money on cigarettes instead of food/clothing for the kids, then calls us for handouts. If you asked me what I thought of her, my response would be very similar to the step-mother who sent this letter. There is no love there, there is no respect or compassion. My life will only be better if I never interacted with that waste of a human being ever again.
But I guess by your standards, I just sold her out, and am a terrible person.
Nowadays, it's often a tool used by the little shit to threaten his parents. There is a serious problem when the kid calls the shots, and has the backing of the local authorities.
Personally I see a more long-term strategy. MS really put Sony up against the wall by pushing this generations release cycle. I think that Nintendo is anticipating that MS will do it again (Which is not unlikely, as they've done it before with Office) and they positioned themselves to be able to transition quickly.
I don't think Sony will be able to survive the console market if MS does another push.
This is a matter of taste. Some people, like you, don't care how it gets there if the finished product is enjoyable. Some people, like myself, care a great deal about the source.
Thats because you bought the most expensive dongle ever along with the OS.

41-pt talent allows you to summon 3 trees who fight for you. Basically a talented Barov Peasant Caller.

bah, there was a 'less than' in there.
I'm not speaking from any professional experience, mind you. Just some logical conjecture.
I think it is the process of GETTING it into orbit that we're discussing. The weight of payload is kinda irrelevant if you're already up there.

"Officer, I've been reaped!"
"Don't you mean raped?"
"No. He used a scythe."
Laugh, damn you.

Remember, you get a bonus if you use 'flawless' and 'rock solid' repeatedly in your astroturfing.
They give you a TV is you mention the 'zomg 40-player TOTALLY LAG FREE' Resistance multiplayer.
I need to go pick up my check now.

If you are a developer, than I am the CEO of Sony.
Of course, if you are a Sony developer, that might explain the lack of quality...
Why does 'unrealistic and stylized' = immature? Sin City was pretty unrealistic and stylized, and that was definitely not aimed at kids.
People need to realized that content and presentation are independant of each other.
