    I consider it at least rude of Myspace to go over the site owner's head and get the registrar to take out the entire domain without letting the site owner know about it.

    Well, we don't really know this. Not sayin' it's so, but I can see Fyodor Vaskovich telling them to "get fucked" or simular.

    Sounds reasonable to me. Fyodor was out of line. And, it's not up to GoDaddy to filter through the 100,000's of Fyodor's pages, he's alrady shown the domain to be a security threat. If he wants GoDaddy to reverse its actions, he needs to clean up his act himself. That's not GoDaddy's job.

    One of the reasons I personally pirate movies is it's easier. I don't have to mess around with anything, I just find a torrent (easy as pie)...
    But when ever the regular anti record / movie industry stoy pops up here, the story is exactly the opposite, that P2P file shairing protocols like BitTorrent are not used for this sort of thing, certainly not by anyone here! So which is it? You can't have it both ways...

    I don't think Apple feels they where going anywhere with Cisco, and that they had nothing to loose. There is some speculation that Apple thinks Cisco abandoned the trademark, and that Apple can win that point in court. Cisco needs Apple, not the other way around. Apple can name the phone device something else with little or no loss in visibility or branding power.

    I'm not sure why it's a google problem, there's a bandwidth crunch coming no doubt about it. The ISPs, the backbones, and everybody in between have been selling a whole thing and knowing that people are only going to use the thing 1% of the time so they sold the same thing a hundred times; now people are using more and more of what they are paying for. Something got to give

    Nonsense. There is plenty of bandwidth. ISP wish to leverage the current levels of usage to their profit advantage. This is the only reason they sell the same chunk of bandwidth to many people. It has no relationship to the availability of bandwidth to the ISP.

    If microsoft was pulling some of the stuff that google had done in the past, people would be up in arms. Instead, simply because they're not microsoft, they get the public's and the IT's blessing.

    We know with almost 100% certainty that if Microsoft where doing something like this, there is no possible way it would benifit the consumer. With Google, that's not such a sure thing. Maybe it's bad, maybe it's not. But with Microsoft, it's sure to be bad.

    My feeling is that if you are at MIT, you can be expected to do this.

    You might think that. But, do you want to bet your network on it? And, not all of the disciplines revolve around computers. There may very well be scientists there who computer geeks might consider Luddites.

    It's only a problem if you haven't read and understood (or had a trustworthy, competent person read and understand on your behalf) the source code of the software you are running, and know for sure that it does only what you want and expect it to do.

    Yes, people do not care to address these issues, rather they wish to see Draper through rose colored glasses. He broke into the phone system and wrote an early word processor, but he's hardly Stphen Hawking or even The Woz. He's a nut, and nuts generally end up where Mr. Draper has.

    Mr. Draper's unusual behavior, such as shouting at anyone smoking anywhere near him, could wear on fellow workers and employers.

    Maybe someone should tell him if he cleans himself up and brushes his teeth, it'll be easier to pick up the young raver boys.

    Municipal networks encourage competition by forcing commercial networks to provide services that they had to that point refused. Municipal networks exist only because commercial networks refuse to compete, instead maintaining a "status quo."

    We hear this suggestion all the time, but the reality is that the reason Firefox and Opera are "more secure" is that there are less people using them. Their market share isn't worthwhile to the commercial malware authors.

    Is this really true? Anecdotal pronouncements like this never seem to come with any references. Everyone says the sky is firmly in place, but how many have looked up recently? It's falling at an amazing speed!

    it's about principle. if enough of us demand the 52 bucks, thats a good deal of money for Dell and Microsoft to eat.
    For me, it's about the 52 bucks. As to this ever making a noticable dent in Dell, don't hold your breath. The majority of Dell's customers want Windows. Indeed, the majority of all computer buyers want Windows. You see, most of the applications out there that most people use only run on Windows.

    I hear this business about "burnt" beans all the time, but I have to wonder if they do it because their customers like the product? There are certainly many alternatives to Starbucks (which I use whenever possible)...

    As to QA, this just isn't so. My son did his internship at the Starbucks roasting facility in Auburn, WA, an operation that is highly computer controlled (so they do know exactly how they are roasting the beans), they have an extensive QA program. So, if the coffee sucks, it's because they like it that way (!!!).
