they're required by law to be heartless bastards---if the CEO says "oh, well, we'll be good to humanity, even if it costs our shareholders $X a year"... that CEO would be instantly replaced by someone who puts profits ahead of morals---as the law requires him to.
People like to trot this out, but it's complete bullshit. The law requires no such thing.
The shareholders, on the other hand, very well might.
US IRS notices don't have much weight in Japan.:-)
That Japanese government may very well have the same issues with Bitcoin that the US government does. In fact, mast governments will, because they are looking for ways to control and tax it.
So, thanks for the "simile face", but just because Japan is not the US does not mean everything is hunky dory with Bitcoin in Japan.
But is it really worth the virtually inevitable lawsuit for a company as successful as the defendants in this case to cheat the backbone of their operations out of a fair wage...
It's not about "fair wage" in most cases, it's about opportunity to work on projects these talented engineers want to work on.
In most cases, the money is something but not the big draw.
These folks bail from Google to Apple, Apple to Google, to work on stuff they want to work on.
Google and Apple (and Intel) are not in a wage fight, they all pay very well.
Keep in mind that media such as movies and other entertainment are not the only use for DVDs, I'm thinking of enterprise software that while it can be downloaded (and often is these days), for practical purposes it's almost always burned to a DVD.
But also, not everyone even HAS an internet connection in rural areas, even when shity Hughes is an option.
No better place to get unlicensed Segway clones and other IP violating products.
I suppose because Segway the first fairly successful version, no one else can make one? I seem to recall that the idea here of Mac clones were touted as perfectly acceptable, but of course Apple is Evil.
So far there is no debris at all. Thats pretty amazing considered where it was last seen. It either didn't crash, or didn't crash where the search is.
Not "amazing" at all if the jet was VAPPORIZED by a small thermonuclear device placed on the jet by the same NSA operatives that brought down the Twin Towers.
200k plus for *ONE* cop? I know that health insurence and retirement bennies add to the base wage, but 200k plus a year? How much is this dude making take home?
Of course there are some people in the world with that name unfortunately.
What percentage of the people named "Satoshi Nakamto" are / were engineers with the skill-set to pull it off? Or, perhaps
I wonder: There are published documents supposedly written by this mysterious "Satoshi Nakamto", what about doing a style analysis with works by this guy who says it isn't him?
But on a broader note, this is sensationalist journalism designed to drive sales and page views of the resurrected Newsweek, once a solid pillar of "journalism", now not much more than the Daily Mirror.
It's early yet. Believe it or not, many Slashdot readers do other things during the evening hours like go out (of the house, not just the basement) and socialize (with real people in the flesh)... Sometimes pick up the kids, swing by a grocery store (believe it or not, many Slashdot readers do not live on Cheetos, Dew, and the occasional Ramen noodles anymore).
Had this story been posted during working hours, there would be twice as many comments by now, since most Slashdot readers surf the site at work...
You have every right to receive, for free, at no additional cost, any broadcast TV signal your antenna can bring in, and to record it on a DVR, and to have the DVR send it to the TV via Ethernet if you want to.
Yes YOU do...
This is just subcontracting the antenna, DVR, and Ethernet part out to someone else.

i wonder if us customers can sue and use these laws.
Remember, though, the IRS considers Bitcoin "property" not "money".
With a 6 digit password composed of numbers and letters, it would take 69 years to guarantee breaking a password...
guarantee. Statistically.
On the other hand, most users don't use random strings for passwords.

That conduct was not connected to his job. But if you want to start penalizing private political activity not connected to the job
But it is related to the job: He is the public face of Mozilla. As the CEO, his behavior reflects on Mozilla.

Facebook might not be a games company right now, but the acquisition of Oculus certainly gives them a huge opportunity to venture in to that market.
Think in terms of a Secondlife-like Facebook "ecosystem".
Perhaps Facebook plans to use this thing and build a sort of "Secondlife" experience in the Facebook world?
I vote for public shaming. Who are the shareholders?
This is not effective with Patent Trolls. The only thing they understand is a legal smack-down.
Pardon the ignorance, what are you referencing?
My life, you insensitive clod.

And no wouild have noticed...
As there is no American aboard that plane, move along, there is nothing to see here ...
Not so. There were three Americans in the group of 239 that died on that flight.
The premise of your comment is ignorant.

CO-INKY-DINK?
SpaceX, more than any other of the "private" space companies, has shown a compentencey for building rockets.
My Ass Is Blue, or whatever the pipe dream that Jeff Bezos is dumping money into, is not a player, not just for Mars, but for any real space flight.
Orbital Sciences and SpaceX are the real players.

At least, that's the argument.
Whenever I read posts like yours, I think of "Comic Book Man".
