Anyone knows how much work is involved in checking up if those claims are valid or not? I seem to be underestimating the task. I would have expected that this was something that could be handed off to an intern to just run off a checklist: yes|no
Nothing. And probably nothing I can't do with yum either. But I doubt it is aimed at the demographic of Linux users within which we fall. I'm not against paying for software however.
I think this all comes to who is more important: the milltions of user who enjoy such services, or the few execs who stand to make _more_ money if people do not enjoy these services. One thing though, I highly doubt they will be satisfied with what ever amount they make when they have rid the world of all filesharing services. They will find new targets then.
I don't like MySpace, but for different reasons. Suing them for this of all this is plain stupid. Or did MySpace buy the kid a computer and internet connection, and setup their MySpace account and email account for them? If MySpace did all that then I guess they may be liable.
I wish we had Professor Farnsworth's "what if" machine. If we did, I would use it to give "these people" everything they want: government controlled internet, a video camera with speaker and mic on every block, no crypo among citizens, etc. and see what would happen. Because at this point I see little difference between the "insurgents" and these people in that both seem to believe that they are doing the right thing, and both are ignoring a lot of logic. I have the feeling that if either extreme were to "win" conclusively, the end would be the same: a very restricted society.
From the title, I thought this was going to be finding a mirrored copy of your website after you stop maintaining it and your host drops you. But being nolonger indexed?? That doesn't make your site dissappear - what a drama queen. Untill Google becomes the only search engine, or becuase a government institution, people need to stop being so dramatic. Websites existed before search engines as far as I understand.
The forces who do not want to see OSS succeed for their own financial reasons will do what ever it takes to make sure your costs go up. If Linux usage spikes next month (for example) I would except to see a rise in underhanded tactics as well.
While it seems that you are my Slashdot friend. U have to disagree with you here. If I had seen that ad, I wouldn't have thought racism - and I'm supposedly black. I thinking this whole 'racsist ad' thing is overplayed. But then again I think that about many black racist matters.

Mozilla has little to do with Seamonkey
for not liking being spied on. Or mass spying of other. Sure seems everyone else is gun ho for it.
Isn't Germany where Hostel 1 and 2 are based?
How is my post a troll? I heard this on CNN.
Some people think bilingualism is something for 3rd world countries. Of course I've only heard this sentiment expressed in the USA.

Poor reason. This would not be an issue since rabbits taste good. People would just eat them.
What is your definition of monopoly?
God invented PDF for these things.

And how much is tuition at your school?
Fair point. Agreed.

I believe copyright has its place, just not on art.
Why? Sure you don't think they did it for ethical or moral reasons...right?
I think they lost any 'kid friendly' image when they showed an ad with a demon possessed baby.
A phone that makes AM quality calls, at cheap rates. MAYBE with texting capabilties. I might buy that.
It's okay dude. Telling the truth will often get you modded as a troll here.
I guess that's why the OLPC guys decide to not let it eat screen space by default.
Yes that's why.
