I honestly don't care what file format the packages come in. So I have no answer as to "Why do we need RPM for?" but I would also ask "Why do we need DEB for?"
1) RPM is not equivalent to APT , or Smart
2) RPM is not responsible for _solving_ deps
3) RPM is both a file format and a program to use the format
4) RPM is _not_ a package manager
5) RPM has little to do with how much you may love your Debian distro of choice (unless you made that choice solely on the file format of the packages used by your distro)
6) The existence and use of RPM does not work against your distro of choice, and so there is no reason to fear/hate it
...it is better than Atlantis, even at this stage of its lifespan. The third series better be darn good. Fridays are now totally boring on tv, save for discovery channel.
Naw. I know some people hunt for food. I know some people hunt to keep populations down. I do not know of any other reasons (that I consider valid at least) for the killing of animals that have done nothing wrong. And I just don't see how either of the two reasons are big enough for blind people (actual people who can't see a thing) to have in their control a tool which requires the ability of sight for proper functionality.
Gardeners do not use tools with anywhere the effectiveness and range of guns. To be clear, I all for people hunting...I just do not see it as enough a need that people who physically unable to do it themselves should be allowed to do it with aid.
Oh come on, you don't hunt for food if you can go to the grocery store - in that case you hunt for fun. I never understood why people were so much for gun control, i guess that this is why.
Fair enough. However, every now and then I heard of perfect experiences, while very regularly i see very poor experiences. So base my judgements based on the information I see regularly. I have Windows installed, and it seems to be free of viri and other malaware. However, I see the opposite very very often.
So are you implying that having pop ups invading ones OS is having their needs met? If not, then I don't see how you disagree as the tone of your post seems to imply. I also made the limitation of being a _non_ Windows expert. If things work that well for you in Windows, then you sir are a Windows expert. Again, I don't see how you contradict my points.
or take what you paid for. I use Linux myself, but feel free to get a Mac and experience less of these spyware just the same. It is really pointless to use Windows, or rather to use Windows as a non Windows expert and then complain about such.

Number 4 is wrong - I was trying to communicate that it was not for resolving dependancies.

You shouldn't since apt is in no way involved.
No, I hear it's good....just have never really given it a chance.
Then do what I did...watch all the old episodes. We are in the 21st centrury dude, that's a poor excuse.
You raise a good point. I still really like the series. But it has changed so much so that I just don't compare the current team to the original team.

My install took about 15 mins to do on FC6.
can someone explain how it is that the apperently consensus is that PHP is insecure by design, asside from just poor programming? Thank you.
Seriously thought, what's going to happen to the guy?

Would you be nice if you submitted bug reports accordingly, as I would like to see OO.org be fully usable in such an environment.

What the hell is it with you people and shooting anything that move...or are you all starving and unable to go to the nearest grocery store?
So you're argueing that $99 is free? Cheap - yes, but you can't argue that that is free, right?
Fair enough.

Also, lets be fair, you're assuming, as am I, that you've never been hacked.

Who said anything about perfectly secure?

You're not all alone on this. I'm not much of a cellphone fan either.
You could download it and run it yourself you know.
