Cruise missiles can't be picked up on satellite though, and they are shorter range, meaning that the only thing that could shoot them down would be a SAM designed for that purpose. You couldn't do any large area plan without thousands pf missile batteries. And you could probably accomplish the same thing by putting the money into radar and long range fighters.

Better to stop the missiles before they get into the air.

But yes, if/when it does come to completion, I would say I was wrong to doubt it.

  16. Re:Is it worth it? on Interceptor Missile Fails Test Launch · · Score: 1

Even if it does work it may not be worth it - because IF missiles are used, they probably won't be ICBMs. A system that could stop cruise missiles would be more use.

I would think that spending more money on stopping them from coming in by sea would be of more benefit.

And I said *SO FAR* anyway. Even if it is worth the money and effort in the future, when it is complete, at the moment it has not been worth the money. That does not mean that it will not become worth it in the future.

When I say can't get past, I mean 15 minutes and it still doesn't compile.

    Programming isn't for everybody.

But for a scripting language, I prefer perl. the syntax feels a lot more like C to me than python does, and it has CPAN. Which means you don't need to re-invent the wheel.

The last thing I did in perl was a quick script to get CD information using CDDB. Took 10 minutes. Used CDDB::get (??? i think, anyway, it was a while back) and Term::ANSIColor. So for a fast (writing) language, perl is good.

For anything that needs speed, I'd go for C. For maintainability, probably C/C++ or Java (with javadoc and doxygen of course).

But the main reason I want some people to learn C/C++ first is that I'm supposed to be helping them make a mod for HL2 (formerly a full game, formerly an HL mod). And I'm the only person in the group that knows C++. And we're supposed to have it in alpha by late January. For a game which I do not yet have. Which makes it hard for me to write the code.

    I'm sure you understand ;)
