Do many people put links in away messages anyway? Wouldn't people think it was strange that there is a link to something they've never heard about in an away message? I've never used AOL, so can someone tell me if you can use a text link, or is it only a URL?

A lot of people can't accept that if you go out in public, you lose privacy. It really doesn't matter if your mobil phone company can find your position, because you're transmitting RF to their towers. I EXPECT them to know roughly where I am from which tower I am connected to.

CCTV cameras? They can't be serious, how much damage do CCTV cameras do? How much damage would have been done if the shops can't see who's stealing stuff? Privacy is important, but if CCTV cameras are a problem, then don't go into shops. If camera phones are a problem to you, don't go out in public. They can't invade your privacy unless you let them.

No offence, but parents should take a proactive stance toward keeping their kids "in line," rather than a passive one

Maybe there are some things that should be kept away from yound kids, but trying to stop teenagers from listening to music they like is just stupid.

I know that isn't really what you meant, but if people think that kids should be pushed "into line" with the way their parents act, you really should see how out-of-sync the parents beliefs are with current reality.

Until SCSI gets cheaper or IDE gets more reliable, neither of which I see happening any time soon

It's not the interface that makes IDE drives less reliable, it's just that manufacturers want to keep server/workstation drives out of desktop machines for good reason - the 10/15kRPM drives need to be cooled, and as soon as people start to put them in desktop machines, they're gonna get a lot of warranty returns. Thereby lowering their profits further, and removing any advantage that they had.

    There are two possible choices:
    1. Make server drives with an IDE interface
    2. Make cheaper drives with SCSI interface, thereby forcing it into the mainstream

#1 has been done by WD with their Raptor drives, but they are still expensive, and have a low capacity to reduce heat.
#2 is unlikely to work unless all the manufacturers do it at once, which isn't going to happen. And, they can't separate the pro and consumer drives as easily as when the consumer drives were IDE and pro were on SCSI.

There just isn't anything in it for the drive makers.
