    It says that the computers had been stolen from the Al-Qaeda central office. And they wouldn't bother erasing someone else's hard drive, would they?

    Anything that would have been useful to CIA before wouldn't be know that all this has been made public - any financial information would be useless, since with this online, they would have taken the money out. Intel is really only useful if not everyone knows it.

    But to be able to read a newspaper in Japanese, you need to remember roughly 2000 symbols, something which I doubt French requires.

    BTW, did you mean I think that Japanese is simpler? I can't remember what sukoushi means, it's simple isn't it?

    I've heard that Japan is pretty easy to go to

    But the language isn't exactly a walk in the park, I'm learning it now, so I can tell you, it's hard.

    Disclaimer: I am not a game programmer, just a teenager with a lot of free time

    The copy protection is not always part of the game code, but in a loading program, which gets an encryption key from the CD which is hidden in a way as to make it hard to find, and then uses the key to decrypt the executable file.

    This was the technique used to protect AOE2, and I don't know if it still works the same way, since I haven't kept current on the subject. I might post some links later on how it works.

    I don't know anyone who pays a tech guy to fix their computer anyway.

    Of course, everyone I know comes to me for help, and takes me seriously. Unless it's hardware. In which case, ooohhh.....it must be that movie i recorded onto there which makes the DVD drive make a grinding noise, I've installed bad software on there and that's why it randomly resets (including during POST), and not a bad PSU.

    Or they could be deleting the video from the disk, before getting hold of a commercial FDD duplicator.

    In a perfect world, this would be true. In the real world, h4xx0rs/virus_writers/burglars always have and always will exist. If the risk is moderately low, no-one will make any effort to stop viruses, and the few that do exist will do much more damage.

    why isn't the OS creator picking up part of the bill?

    They make an unsecure operating system, someone exploits the bugs, so why should they get money for doing a bad job? Sounds like an incentive to make security holes.

    These are much, much cheaper to get. That would be a fair point.

    It's an interesting idea of how to make predictions, because after all, like in real life, a lot of people will vote for someone/not at all because they think everyone else has.

    Kind of like one of those equations in Neural nets. I can't remember it exactly, I think it was something like 1/(e^(-t)*log(t)) that causes more change when the votes are close, and less when it's near the extremes, since with a very high/low buying price, you change people's confidence in that decision.

    I always thought it would be interesting to try it on /., with an uncapped mod limit, but there is a big change around the 2-3 area, but when you get to -1/5, each moderation becomes less of a change. Not really practical though. Wouldn't want to hurt /. servers.

    This ISN'T for people without full use of their hands, it is marketed towards gamers.

    Note the Up/Down/Left/Right pad, and IIRC, the keyboard is scriptable, to allow a single keypress to take the place of multiple keys.

    Kind of the same with me, but I'm still in high school.

    We play with the Lego Mindstorms kits here, and I must share how horrifying it is to have to program with pictures, when I could write the same program in assembly in half the time. Aaarrrggghhh.....Why can't I program Lego with the keyboard.....
