So, I did some of the math,

MSFT reports about $10B /quarter according to their press releases (roughly). Or $40B/year USD. $33.5M is 08375% of $40B

assuming I made $100K/yr, that would be the same as me paying $83.75. If I remember correctly, the last speeding ticket I got ended up costing me about $200. A little over twice that.

    Here's an idea:

We could write our messages down on paper and pay a bunch of people with psycotic tendencies to run around and deliver them to each us.

If they can find us and hand us the "en-vel-opes" (we'll call them), Done! Message delivered, no patent violation! It would clearly be a problem if we just had these people like, leave them in a nearby box or something for us. So, instead, until they find the actual hand of the recipient of the "en-vel-opes", they can just take the messages back to their warehouse - patent problem solved

    woo-hoo!

There are several things tha make one go "hmmmm..." about all of this. From what I understand, there was one cartoon published and others floating about. The famous "bomb in the hat" was publihsed in September, when no apology was forthcoming, certian parties took that one, and some others that were never published over to the middle east and reall stirred the pot.

Of course the really silly thing is....

"Microsoft, unyielding, relies on their own developers who are slowly (but rapidly gaining speed) migrating to the more stable Unix-based systems." So, Novell was kicked over and over for clinging on to their NetWare kernel - a closed source, proprietary mess that was a nightmare to code to. They finally saw the light and (a bit late) have adopted a Linux alternitave in buying SuSE. This, like the Apple stratagy opens them up quite a bit to say the least. When will folks realize "Hey, this Microsoft stuff is all closed up! Every other OS in the world is built on standards!" I predict that in a couple years, people will be making the same statments about Microsoft that they did about Novell 10 years ago - it is an antiquated, closed, and dead OS.

I believe the suit was dropped. Most folks used the car analogy "Gas on the right, break on the left, steering "wheel", four tires, gee looks like Ford should sue the world's auto makers"

Anyway, the Lotus thing didn't fly.
