Given the number of "independant developers" who have visited Apple Campus, and gone home in Limo's with a fat checque and a job offer.
I'd say Apple knows who's friends are.

Steve said the other day that they had been looking at a number of good homebrew apps that exist already for the iPhone.

So I guess the job offers are in the post to those guys already.

Well in that regard Apple has won the desktop war.
It just doesn't look like that as they seem to loose the major battles.

After all when the majority of people are on little Touch OS devices the desktops that are left will be the limited tasks that still require a full scale general purpose computer. Look at Apples moves in the desktop market software wise of late in Creative and Content production if they make the play right over the next decade, they will keep current sales as desktops all but disappear.
Plus there are posistioning themselves pretty well to grab major hold of portable devices at two different scales already.

It's not just moving data you have to include the cost of the data centre, staff, cost of handling money, advertising, promotion and every other cost a normal store would have expect rent in high cost malls and dead stock issues.

Hey I don't buy that it's lead loss for apple, I think they've setup a viable standalone business, that just happens to compliment all of there other inhouse businesses.

If the debate has covered both sides well then you forfill the purpose of education, also the invited guest either has to acknowledge both sides or show an obvious bias, which prevents any indoctrination.
