  1. De Telegraaf is a glossy-meets-newspaper. on Woz Misquoted About Android Dominating iOS · · Score: 2, Informative

"De Telegraaf" interviewed him? No wonder.. they are not thrustworthy in my oppinion.

De Telegraaf is a glossy magazine in newspaper format. Its mostly about what A said about B, what B thinks about this, and what the newspaper speculates C has to do with it.
It also recently bought Hyves.nl, the dutch Facebook.com. Not sure why.
It has the worst page layout i've ever seen in a newspaper. I recon each issue contains every font known to man, in all font sizes upto 3cm, and tries to apply every font style and linespacing imaginable.
It often posts bullshit stories only to rectify them the day after -with another huge headline- as if its the news itself. Just like American newschannels do.

  2. A mere 5x3 bitmapfont fits 117 characters more!! on The World's Smallest Legible Font · · Score: 1

In the example picture in the article, the space actually occupied by characters is 282x203px. Not QVGA. Its readable though.
I even cheated in my disadvantage by actually cropping of some antialiasing thats part of the characters at the edge. So really, its somewhat larger. That is 57246 pixels.

    Vertical average line height: 203 / 43 lines = 5.9705882352941176470588235294118

I assume this is the whole text: (excuse me, my copy paste for some reasons stops working when visiting Slashdot.com in Chrome)
link .. upto "the State remaining in the mean".
This is 3106 characters, including spaces and not including linefeeds. Mind that due to the small width of the image, some spaces got dropped saving a major percentage of space. This is not accounted for. I'm to lazy to actually count the characters and spaces in his image.

Spread over 43 lines, this is 91,352941176470588235294117647059 characters per line average.

    Horizontal average character width: 282 / 91,35..etcetera = 3,0867285254346426271732131358661.

I know that the characters A-Z 0..9 a..z and most punctuation fit in at least 5x3 pixels. In this case line height could be 6 pixels, or less if you interpolate on say, thirdh or half pixels.

At 5x3 pixels, the same text would require (minus 43 space characters at end of lines, so 3063 characters) a 3063*3*6 pixels, = 55134.
5 because lines are separated by a whole pixel.

My solution takes less pixels. There are aproximatly 2112 pixels left, good for another 117 characters.

    Somewhat related, how this turned out for Philips and the place they did this (Eindhoven, Netherlands) in the previous era;

It is where Philips first put up office. Housing its own staff is what Philips did en masse after WW2 in the city of Eindhoven. These days the housings are part of Eindhoven itself, and the offices and factories are put to other uses. I especially like how Strijp (the former Philips campus ground) is now a cultural nexus for talented art, design, and tech folks with regular renowed festivals or other happenings for anyone. Eindhoven has much to thank Philips for, the city is still well known for both its design and its technology disciplines.

"OPTA checks whether market parties comply with the law in order to protect consumers." - http://www.opta.nl/en/about-opta/

Option 1 is merely a "test trial" thrown against ten large hotels because OPTA has its job to do.

    On this situation:
I view this as a protest against a bad law on what makes someone an internet provider. Perhaps a chess move in something that doesn't aim to make Hotels an ISP, but to make it so actual ISP's can't hide behind the same walls (like holes in a vague law) as hotels do. I can't ever imagine hotels beng labeled as ISP's, and i believe everyone (including OPTA and the Hotels) would enjoy knowing what they're supposed to do and what not.

Abuse is suggestive. So is a fair use policy. Well here in the Netherlands its pretty close to unlimited. I can do whatever i want (am a heavy user) and without problems.

My mobile internet has been truly unlimited since 2003. And i use it all_the_time. Theres a fair use policy, and i did not get blocked. Even tethered it for a few months, used torrents and still no pain. Of course it all depends on the company and how it defines fair use.

Vodafone for example says "10MB per month is enough for anybody!" and stupidly calls that unlimited. Tmobile says "We don't have a number for that, it depends on usage. Using 2GB in a month is no problem."

For home ISP: using about 80% of my broadband connection capacity 24/7. Nothing there as well. Fair use!
