whats next from M$ ? 100 laws of monopoly. M$ seems find it hard to realize that it cannot replicate its monopoly in non-OS domains.

replace the word identity with pimping, and you get 'seven laws of pimping'. - i may not be right here, since i wouldnt access the paper, thanks to MSN.

The only reason why this news caught attention of geeks is cause the tittle sounds cool like in scifi novels.

I saw this IIT professor speaking at a Linux meet. He does not know how to pronounce Linux; He does not know how open source projects work; He does not know that MySQL can be embedded in open source application. I dunno what he knows, except being a windbag.
I am sure you got those (MySQL, OS, Linux) wrong, considering the fact that I took one of his courses.
I bet, Phatak will contribute more to open source than you.
Its not good to discredit/flaim some one on internet without concrete evidence. Could you let us know as to how come Phatak is a windbag.

  3. Re:India Can't Afford This on India Launches World's First Stereo Imaging Satellite · · Score: 1, Insightful

    Why is India doing this?

India has a surplus of food to the extent that lack of demand is bringing the food price down to the level of hurting the farmers earnnings.

Distribution of wealth has been a major problem for india, While surplus food is rotting in some places, people in remote parts of india are suffering.

I believe the lack of precise maps was realised during the recent tsunami. I also presume Microsoft bangalore is working (god knows what can M$ deliver) in the direction of generating digital maps for precise agriculture (what ever it means).

Why would india spend on hi tech stuff, when it could have spent on poverty. I beleive it would cost india more to out source the remote sensing/mapping to developed countries. not only can it get it done cheaply, it probably may earn provinding services to other countries. (Like how Brazil realized that paying of M$, will sqeeze them dry, while they could use free-ware, albeit with some pain).

Also India learnt it the hard way of not trusting the developed nations (esp America). America has probably hurt India's ambition to achieve technology, more than any other country. India's thrive for self-reliance far exceeds the benefits of self-reliance in most of its projects.

Indian Space programe, I believe is a good success for india, especially at cost-benefit ratio. it probably has been more productive than the Chineese space program. While its other projects, esp related to defence, have been a huge drain.

I say, out source the space missions to countries like India and China, they could be done cheaper. it will decrease the tax burden for americans.

Xenophobic Americans. Thanks to globalization, they lose jobs, and now come with all sorts of silly propaganda to disrepute developing nations. Hipocratic Americans. Reputation of India and China didnt not come into their mind, when they wanted their markets. After coming to America, I have been victim of spam, phishing, tele-fraud, identity theft. Never heard of them in India. The worst I hate is coutesy calls, was forced to disconnect my land-line. After using debit cards in india, I thought using debit cards is as safe as credit cards, not in america. Most americans do not have a clue that the credit card charges made as charity/deals were being processed in Canada. While american govt finds it costly to investigate $100 fraud on credit cards (may be outsource investigations to other countries). While almost all do not have a clue as to what some of those charges on credit card mean. -jan PS: I thought american-slashdotters are smart of america, cant believe that they would prefer to live in a illusionary world, deny any minimal understanding of economics and common sense. Now, i know what i can expect from not-so-smart-americans. Becomin victim of propaganda once and twice could be understandable, but this rhetoric propaganda, oozing with prejudice and gratutious display of chstupidity doesnt suit a forum like slashdot. Probably no one told you the jobloss in non-america, due to american MNCs. Loss of economies, by forcing developing nations to open up for powerfull MNCs. We were told about the benefits of globalization by america, and now you guys are closing ur markets. sick.

    1) India is pissed at the US cause the USA is allowing Pakistan to buy fighter planes, and because the US is trying to prevent India from building an oil pipeline from Iraq to India (hey, that's Halliburton's job) USA can sell F-16s (can deliver nukes) to Pakistan. But India cannot sell weapons or do business with Iran, not even an Oil pipe line. Lets see, Whose the biggest rouge Iran or Pakistan ? Abdul Khan has already delivered some nuke material to jihadis. Who the hell has supplied weapons to Taliban and who supported them. Who has the guts to support terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir in open. Stop, 'American Hypocracy' for chrise sake. -jan

No, but you've got to admit it would be easier for Osama to walk into an Indian call center and get a job than a "western" one.

I laud your imagination and knowledge that predicted Osama in an indian call centre. And you think Osama is dying for a call centre job ? or that he can launch a bio-nano-chemical attack thru an indian call centre ?

Let america not force hapless countries to get robbed by openning their markets under the name of globalization.

if america has the right to stop out sourcing, then every other other in the universe has the right to close their markets to america.

Stop hypocracy, go to school to read some economics. I am happy to know that globalization cuts both sides.

the minute ipod talked about phote viewer in iPod, iriver made an firmware update and now i can watch video on my iriver H320. thats the power of developing an open system.

love for open systems and rebellian against tyranny semms to be innate in me.

Theres little learnning curve for navigation, but iriver can always make a firmware update to improve the navigation.

i think ipod back u2 theme is cool, not sure about ipod white and pink.

I wonder, if its possible to change the hard disk, say upgrade to a higher capacity one. I have been searching for an mp3 player for quite a long time, my criteria were: * Should not need software, USB external hard drive. * Good sound quality. * Integrated FM tuner. * Should be small. * Line Out. ? recording capability ? not a requisite, but will be appreciated. * Good Battery life. * DRM inclusion should not create any irritation. * Firm ware upgradeable I rounded on for Archos gmini 220 or Iriver ihp 120. With release of H320, I think i will go for it. Not that i like color screen, but its sort of cool. Does any body think there any player which matches my criteria ? I think IRiver makes pretty good players, but they are sort of greedy. they released H3** pretty late. I am sure they lost good market due to iPod influx. while Ipod and others dropped prices, Iriver is yet to make any such move on HP series. btw, Does IRiver provide battery replacement ? -j
