    Perhaps you haven't figured this out yet, but the whole Gaia-as-goddess thing is a load of horseshit. The globe can't be "raped".

    That's a very complicated way of saying 'I am an unimaginativly human being who doesn't know any of the words "abstract", "abstractly" and "conceptional"'.

    So far the lifestyle *has* been sustainable.

    Perhaps you have heard sth about "ozone hole", "deforestation" (not only rainforest, also in Canada and Europe), "overstraining of farmland" (mostly through "artificial" fertilizer), "water shortage in Europe" (esp. in northern Italy in the Po lowlands) and "finite oil resources" lately.

    It's not important if global warming is natural or not. It changes earth's climate to the worse for humankind. That's important.

    BTW, humans are part of nature and therefore are natural and so is human action. We (as in humankind) are neither nonnatural nor supernatural.

    Am i the only one who first thought of a direct link between the ROV's and Seattle when reading the arcticle? What made me wonder: H2O doesnt let EM-waves go very far. Thus a ROV has a cable connection to it's mothership. But this draft should make it clear how it really is.

    NetBSD's binary releases include support for an amazing 40 platforms and an additional 12 platforms in the source code.

    No, 54 platforms with 48 as binary release.

    It's currently at version 2.6.1, with aggressive testing on the new NetBSD 2.0 promising fruition by the first half of 2005.

    No, it's currently at version 3.99.7 and NetBSD 2.0 was released in December 2004.

    Its desktop and production applications are so limited as to be nonexistent and this isn't likely to change even after NetBSD 2.0 is released.

    I wouldn't call 5400 ports in pkgsrc, which is, btw, available for 12 different OSes, "nonexistent". If the only thing you can do is to paste some old article in here, go away.

    I think "data model" refers to distribution and the scalability of distribution in this case.

    Most of these problems will go away if you install GNUstep on top of Linux. GNUstep is not just a thin shell around Linx in the way Gnome and KDE are, it creates a consistent environment for the user.

    Ok, i've installed GNUstep. Now, how do i run it? I managed to put /usr/pkg/share/GNUstep/System/Library/Makefiles/GN Ustep.sh into my ~/.zshrc but i don't know how i start applications now! I've tried to run /usr/pkg/share/GNUstep/System/Applications/GWorksp ace.app/GWorkspace but it keeps complaining about a mysterious GDNC server which isn't running, but should?! And something about "fswatcher", "ddbd" etc. Sorry, but i wasn't able to actually _use_ it, because i can't click anything (nothing reacted upon a click) and every ten seconds a message about this gdnc thingy popped up.

    Just keep your personal files in your $HOME, tell the package manager which app you want and let it manage the dependencies.

    Only one thing should be changed: map /usr/share/doc readonly to $HOME/doc.

    That should be enough for everyone. No need to worry about a complicated directory structure.

    Yes, Tim Roberts did a good job. But the free ProSavage (DDR) drivers are still limited. To date theres no working support vor XvMC for this card(s).

    It has an 55MHz Arm Processor, runs Linux and has busybox aboard. Enough control for me.

    When I turned on xcompmgr on my Ubuntu box, it was actually quite surprising how much easier it was to determine what windows are where.

    When i turned on xcompmgr, my computer went unusable.

    And for the record, those who think that eye candy adds excessive processor bloat, my current Linux system is a Duron 600mHz with 256MB of RAM and a GeForce4 MX.

    1,6 GHz Athlon with 256MB. And a videocard which has no usable DRI support, namely a Savage8 DDR.
