Actually the Saturn V rocket was quite successful and alot cheaper than the Shuttle program. The Russian space program uses similar type rockets and future launch vehicles proposed by NASA are based on the Saturn V rocket.
What makes a nut is that the conditions that will make earth uninhabitable, like the Sun burning out, will make all planets in our solar system uninhabitable. Seriously, at that point you need to leave the solar system.
The point is we had the debate 43 years ago and decided to go to the moon. That's why it's ironic, that after 40 years we're still talking about going to the moon.
So all the research published by these scientists showing climate change, needs to be republished again into a neatly distilled letter to rebut a letter that ignores all the published research? Nice.
How about you getting off your ass and reading the research.
Really? You do realize if any Chinese worker wants to form a union - you know to improve their working conditions - they go to jail. It's a crime to form a union.
Alot of what was mentioned in the NY Times is new information. Describing worker dormitories, describing what Apple expected from the company to make a last minute product line changes; quoting Apple executives praising the working conditions.
Combined with this news and Apple's 4Q financial reports, show's Apple in a very bad light. A very profitable company that doesn't care about the conditions of workers.
When you employ slave labor it's pretty easy to make cheap products. Make the same products in Germany then talk to me how uncompetitive American labor force is....but forcing workers to work 12 hours shifts at slave wages in a Communist country where workers go to jail is the forma union and factories can pollute the environment....not exactly Apple and Oranges comparison comrade.
Except that's not the problem here. No new drugs have been developed for TB. The same antibiotics have been used for 50 years, which "probably contributed to the emergence of strains that are unresponsive to treatment."
There are two drugs that are used for TB: isoniazid and rifampicin.
From the article:
"The fact that no new first-line TB drugs have been developed for half a century has probably contributed to the emergence of strains that are unresponsive to treatment, says Mitnick. “If you keep using the same drugs for that long, resistance is inevitable.”"
“The pharmaceutical industry had scant interest in TB for decades,” says Richard Chaisson, director of the Center for TB Research at the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health in Baltimore, Maryland. “The industry pretty much concluded it wasn’t an attractive market, there was not enough potential profit.”
This leads to an interesting point that the pharmaceutical industry cannot be given stewardship of protecting the public's health. Unless it's profitable they can't be bothered.
"Four patents are the basis for Kodak's actions, including one for "automatically transmitting images from an electronic camera to a service provider using a network configuration file" and another patent for "capturing digital images to be transferred to an email address."

What? Do you read what you write.....the Sun will burn out, which means NO planet in our solar system can sustain life.

Except that the NAS wasn't the only body publishing research on climate change. But hey it's all a conspriracy...

Yeah because we're not talking about CO2 coming from burning fossils fuels....no CO2 only comes from people exhaling.....
And your a douche bag. There fixed that for you.

You're saving 20%. Hardly a significant amount and Apple still maintains a 60% to 70% profit margin.
Your flame bait rant aside....Just read the comments from Apple executives. They're enough to make you smash Apple products you own.
The NYT article brings to light conditions and tragedies that many people did not know about. It's hard to ignore these images.
Yeah that will help create jobs, bringing indentured servants here. Nice...

America the new sweat shop of coders.

Yeah those aren't obvious *eye roll*
Gygax denied D&D was based on Tolkien.
Considering the Hobbit or There and Back Again, was a children's fantasy novel, it's no surprise.
Yup.
Yes I have, and yes the Government is good at infrastructure when you don't have jackasses cutting funding for maintaining it.
I didn't realize that SONY execs read slashdot. Good for them.
The Chamber of Commerce uses the name US to mislead people into thinking it is a federal agency. As such it should be removed.
