"Better" is such a subjective term much like your perception of teenagers if I were a teenager taking my punk gang to a restaurant, chances are some snotty Chez Lex establishment would just make them uncomfortable. Thanks for that laugh :) (btw price would be more of a factor, not feeling uncomfortable)

Anyhow I'm caught off gaurd rambling. What I'm trying to say we all get caught up in the what's better argument but the fact is what I like won't be what the next guy likes and what is more popular or widely use does not make it "better". There are other factors involved in keeping a declining company(like mcdonalds) #1 such as name recognition and more importantly trust and fear of change. Humans tend not to like change and when they get comfortable with something, they'll live with it and won't change unless they are forced to. And yes price too is a factor but it doesn't make mcdonald's better as one would think. If you put a big mac next to a filet mignon I think most people would take the filet mignon. Now if this the case why don't people eat filet mignon instead of big macs? they simply cant afford to

. So people like other things better than mcdonalds but mcdonalds is the more practical choice in light of external factors(money situation, time situation. location, etc).

In short to try to summarize my ramble, humans dont always pick the best, they pick based on 1)convenience 2)"good enough" 3)fear of changing to something different that they know is "good enough"

I'm not talking a 6 figure cushy job, im just talking about a reasonable pay for my level, get my foot in the door job. Took over a year for that to happen and with the help of God. I busted my ass off for 4 years to earn 2 degrees and in the end I busted my ass off harder just to find a single job because I wasn't qualified nor had the experience for most other places out there. So yea, that's my story and gripe...

And yes kids needs some growing up to do and while most of the bitching of the article I feel is legit, it would help if the college kids have a real mentor. Someone to sit them down and say "listen, you really need to get a realistically view of what is going on. This is what you may think your entitled to but this is really what your entitled to. And you wonder why people hate IT departments...The goal is to work together in a company, and find solutions that take into account problems that employees may have

Your last statement is right but what you fail to realize the end users and most importantly the managment don't see this goal either. Many just want to bitch bitch bitch until the problem is fixed without giving an inch without moving a yard. It can't work that way. It takes TWO to tango. Both sides have to be willing to work with each other. Won't do much good if IT does what you want it to but the user fails to cooperate. But yes there is a major problem in that IT doesn't think from the user's vantage point and vice versa so a big gap is forming defeating that goal.

That's why you were hired, not so you can sit on your duff and complain about all the work that users make for you.

I wasnt hired either to get belittle and bitched at by management or whoever else because they f up their machine or expect me to drop everything to fix a problem they are having. Or simply because they are having a bad day and I'm the easiest and lame duck target to take there agression out on. I guess that's ok though and acceptable though since I'm off my "duff". Like any other profession, when you're overwork, you complain and since many IT deptartments are understaff since management either hates nor understand IT, naturally alot of complaining will occur. Its why I don't like being in the IT profession and thinking of moving on. You don't deal with people when things go well in this profession you deal with them at their worst. You can tell who will handle themselves well in a crisis and who would throw their own mother in the flames just to get out of a burning building alive.

But there are 2 sides to every story, to every IT department. Remember not all of us are "holier than thou" and you don't see either some of the shit we have to put up with just like we don't see all of the shit you have to put up with.
