Not saying it's legal but it is not stealing, it is (c) infringment. There is, in fact, a difference.

Now, back to the case in France, the summary even mentions the "flat fee" aspect of P2P as a service, so in this case, no it is not stealing or (c) infringement. Just because teh media companies do not like the laws does not mean that what is happening is illegal.

As to the whole stealing thing: I once was like you, this is stealing. After a lovely argument I was swayed to the "it's not stealing" camp, problem is that tends to lump me in the "it's OK" group as well, which I firmly am not.

Not so fast! I've made my platform on the fact that people should not be allowed to marry earthworms!

Now on the more serious side, the real problem is that most people have no idea what they want. All they know is that they like bread and circuses* and that so long as the party(ies) in power provide that they are not inclined to change. I agree that the Libertarian way is better in many respects, but it can not happen without social change. The problem with our country is not the politicians, it is with the people. Lousy politicians and pork are the symptom, not the cause. Win the people and you will win the election. Joe Sixpack individually is a great guy, wants things to change, etc. but put 100 of them in a group and you now have the epitomy of "sheeple".

Partially because the harshness for which our mailitary deals with deserters/objectionests so that it is far easier to just go than to not. Also, as to the standing army, our entire armed forse is currently voluntary. These people just as likely would have joined the state National Guard (the militias) if the army was "closed". I know a couple personally who joined the Army because there was nothing for them at home, they were going downhill in drug abuse, crime, etc., and joined the army to shape up. Both these people are now very productive members of their society (one stayed in Germany). For these people (who to some extent or another I think embody the reason for most to join) I think it greatly unfair to bash them for being in Iraq / abroad. Whether you think the commander in cheif has screwed up or not is a seperate issue, the command structure of our country is all assed up, you and I agree to that much I am sure.
