shelf company $500
bid to win advertising space $500
having dickhead tatooed on some idiots forhead for 30 days......priceless
http://goto.dickheadinc.nl
if only i had enough spare cash and time to fuck with people
also there is a very strong chance that they are going to try and make it backward compatible....how they will do this is going to be very intresting but the CPU which is going to be used for it as a final product is not in manufacture yet....its just passed prototyping....strained Silicon PPC/64.....its looking to be about the same speed as a 4Ghz Cisc processor but its risc in concept from what i understand of it....(white papers are somewhat vague/too dppe for me) the key to it all is that the source can be recompiled for whatever if you have a compiler for the platform....its more the fact they wrote a HAL layer anyways
surely that figure has something to do with the amount of boxed versions of software people will have made available to them now that out bittorrents are being attacked...
if only we could use that money to fund a bittorent hosting service so we can not have packaging...but packaging is a good thing...look at microsoft if you read the packaging you'd actually think you were buying something secure and stable...and fast...and user freindly...
Porting it to XBOX gives them some advantages which are quite intresting.....
Every xbox talks the same way...no variant motherboards (well not coing wise)
Therefore xbox-Linux information tells them how the hardware reacts....Dodgy PCI bus, fully understood bios....open source dashboards so they understand the directx crap and basically its about them building a HAL not the OS
HAL is probably a bigger problem than the APIs because alot of API stuff Wine has built/worked out....the HAL although is ReactOS's problem alone
NO...what they have done is used the xbox whixh has a bios which we can hack and known hardware configs from Linux and then build a windows NT style HAL and it works....mostly...usb support is a minor thing except for the fact it's the only way an xbox will take input
thats more an issue for the application than the device....embedded browsers are not a real thing...its always the OS that gets the virus the browsers just the gateway to the system. secure either one and there is no proble....thus browser is coded with intent to dissallow acces to anything but a set piece of ram etc....no hard disk no carryover problem...reset the powercircuit to the ram...problem gone
Xbox was proven to be a broken PC years ago...
Xbox 2 will not run Xbox 1 homebrew stuff until we hack the hardware.....thats gonna take time....probably lots more than the first from what the specs are saying....NGC took near 2 years...this could be as hard....all hypothetical tho...
xbox 2 is going to be running strained Silcon cpu from all the stories which makes it IBM based CPU (AMD & IBM only strainers atm) the videocard is probably going to be ATI and the dvd will probably be HD-DVD because Blue ray is sony's baby...
the main reason the article exists is to say that they can prot windows to other architectures reasonably easily....ie they have only had the opportunity toi go after xbox hardware in the last 2 years...and most likely its been a last 3 month project with OXDK as they wont have MSXDK else they wouldnt need cromwell bios...
ie making a portable version of windows should be possible..
now think of it like this....if you get wine's Open source APIs and can use those with ReactOS and then you can port it to other hardware then you have a much freindly competitor to linux on an open source OS that is WINX86 based not *NIX based thus creating a cmpetition if microsoft where to not exist..
windows NT workstation is more compatable with current windows applications than it is with wine so if by some miracle reactOS could become a windowsNT workstation level OS then linux is further behind than reactOS. that being said being open sourced both wine and react would collaborate rather than fight wars which is where our issues stem from with Microsoft....
If we could see their code and tell them how to fix it they still wouldnt use it, where as react and wine would..
so i think im getting this right...
run linux desktop for everyone put a TSclient on linux and have 1 windows 2K server with a few licences to run specific un linuxable apps....if you can isolate it like citrix to run a specific app then you have a solution yah?...
all we need to do is make an opensource terminal server app for win xp (fast user switching implies it has it sorta working on different profiles at 1 time...
Knight to rook 4.......You have performed an illegal move your computer has become unstable please lay down your king and rebbot the system. We are sorry for this inconveinience if problems persist please contact your system administrator
Movie industry deserves my money for a good product on a theatre screen. IE if its something like shrek or harry potter etc ill go to the theatres to watch it, Else i wait for DVD version to watch from a video library if i like it alot ill rip it to DVD. I may watch it every now and then (1 -2 times a year.)
My reasoning for this is its better on big screen and they have 100s of people involved on a production. I will however only pay their required fee for viewing it 1 time.
The music industry however can go fuck itself.
i will not pay for music full stop. i have 3 basic principles for this.
lets take linkin park for instance as they are a band that have recently hit it big and are currently touring.
they have 5 members of their band and can got away with 2 full time roadies on their first tour.
so they have to support 7 people not 100s
therefore their LIVE performances are what is required to cover that cost. Expanding costs of live production is built into the touring company's fees etc so this is where bands make money (not a huge amount of money but plenty to pay the bills and hire 15 hookers a night if that be their wish)
a song costs them nothing to make other than distribution costs and a very minimal cost for a recording studio (they already own the equipment they need to produce everything except the final mixing).
A live performance/tour happens because they can be confident that their songs have reached enough people to guarantee X amount of people will want to experience those songs live.
I cannot find any argument to stop the fact that CDs are a money laundering system. The reason they were created was to make hiugh quality reproductions of the recorded music to INCREASE popularity of that music and it's creator for the purpose of making the bands capable to travel to live venues with confidence.
I am a musician and i feel that getting ridiculously rich off the creation of a song/album is not what its all about. I dont charge the bands to play their music at gigs. I am being paid to entertain. the musicians may or may not be more talented but that does not justify the HUGE money which the music industry receives.
Turn the radio on and you can hear it for free so why cant i do that with my PC.
SURE i could be the ruin of the music industry but if my gigs get other peoples music popular how is that also not feeding the music industry.
If i share music i am increasing their popularity and thus generating a revenue stream via live gigs .
you have to work for your money not spend 2 days writting a song then 10 days rehearsing a song then 1 day in a studio and some cash for some CD for radio stations etc. if a song is requested or hits the charts then the distribution chain gets involved and you can mass produce you locally popular song/CD.
wheres the work in that i cant justify the money im paid for my curren job where i do 20 hours work a week & do gigs on the side (some paying some for fun) IF soemone can justify the sub 300 hours time it takes to write a song and get it local distribution chain into the XXXX millions the work reaps then i would honestly be baffled at their value system.
I could also be wrong and this has happens a few times before but to me money is just a way for people to make other people feel bad.
there are of course other means and avenues to make it big but this is the general model for music
*if theres spelling mistakes in this reply please let me know so i can patent the method of using and incorrect letter in the middle of a word to make it incompatible with spellcheckers while still conveying the meaning*
Everquest is still king of MMORPG and unfortunately i donth think that UO is going to get much closer to it. When EQ2 comes out it is rumoured to be far better than anything around and in dev at the moment although sony are going to keep EQ1 online for extended periods of time also.
Lineage2 is the Asisn strongline atm but in a PvP environment it is not really the same thing.
my xbox does all this already and still playes xbox games......not to mention expandable formats, better handling caching,
I also have one running linux with an LCD in my bedroom so i can do all the above and also have a linux install so i can do other things also....(mythtv, web browsing, programming, email etc)
I double checked with a few guys about the soft modding methods and they said that you can load the savegame hacks if they are on you usercache but they said the issue they have with it is they do need to put the drive into a modded one to get past the unsigned code issue. They have said that there IS a way to do it via USB ports and a cross over cable also using a MS tools disk which was leaked at some stage.
The easiest method is indeed to have a memory card but access to a modded Xbox for 10 Minutes with a Evox/Slayers disk and 2 torx heads and your away.
Definately value for money.
Modding X-Boxes is legal at this time also in australia so competition and advertising has them being modded for A$40 i assume they also do "less advertisable" things too and this is a step in.
You can transfer the savegame to your user savegame files the save game up into your usercache via a ftp and then you dont need a memory mod at all. The only reason we use memory cards is it saves us from setting up FTP connections.
Just thought i'd point out that half the people talking about modded Xboxs here havent got a clue..
software modding an xbox is less that 30 minutes work and costs the hiring of an original game called mechassault or agent onder fire....it does need 1 solder joint...
Hardware mods can be turned OFF allowing xbox live but these cost a small charge and a little
more intensive soldering or more cost for solder free.
Hard disks can go up to 250 gib at the moment but im sure if we had 500 gig drives we could make them work....we can write new bios and release it.
fans can be replaced and changed easily and many many tutorials and articles are available from the "usual places" about almost any mod you want. Even down to how to do CPU ram upgrades. Lets face it celeron chips around 1.4 Gig are hardly expensive
if your not up to date with the XBOX Scene then its easy enough to learn just google it
I have xbox, i did my mods myself , i enjoy it
i have xebian running and it replace my PC in the lounge other than recording but now i can Play while ripping,recording,whatever...
its great for me but then again id also like to buy a heap of other toys too but this one made sense for the budget
If your looking at Voice Recognition applications first thing you would need to do is get a good microphone and makesure the soundcards decent....
Training the applications is pretty easy but id suggest reading all the books/samples it wants you to read several times to it so it has a good chance.
I have done alot of Dictation stuff with "Dragon dictate's" series and they seem to work pretty well. I found an australian version and spent about 10 hours training it the first few days. Once it gets the hang of you as long as your not too much of an emotional speaker...ie speak monotoned and at a steady pace.
Grammar etc generally sucks in them but its good enough to get started. I write about 15 pages in dicatation then spend 15 minutes grammar checking and proofing them.
I would suggest you try split keyboards and better seating etc first though as its rather a painful process to train them. Imagine readying 3 pages of the same book 5 times without finding out anything more... and then doing it with say 10 books....
its enough to make you want to get a secretary...
oh some of the products also now have Wav to text stuff. so you can use a dictaphoine of good quality also..
remember its trained for your voice tho so everyone who talks to it needs to be trained.
DVD/CD ROM based...
XBOX/PS2/PC bootable PDF READER...
Xbox bootable PDF reader can be linux based just need microsoft signed code...
PS2 easy enough to do id expect but dont know a great deal about it.
PC bootable ASPI drivers & IDE drivers....yeah video drivers could be a pain but its ONLY 2D so any generic driver from a chipset manufacturer would be good.
if the size was small enough why not make a Palm pilot version or something...
Picard and Riker etc never had much issue reading off a palm pilot....

was via based originally but now the chip is unmarked....id expect that the debian driver will tell you in xebian or even the xbox-linux forums
i would honestly say that porting to xbox was more about dealing with how the PCI bus works....or in this case how the xbox PCI bus doesnt work.
