  1. What you all fail to realize on The Technology Behind Formula One · · Score: 1

Is that Formula 1 is one of the only motorsports where the technology developed for the race cars Actually makes it into future production vehicles. Technology for Anti-lock brakes, Clutchless manual transmissions, Hydrolic valves, tire technology, Fule injection, the list goes on and on. Some of the tech they have has not made it or is still to expensive for mas production. Nothing new has come out of NASCAR for 50 years. Still pushrod V8's with large displacements to produce power. Still carborated, all very mechanical. Low tech at it's best. Heck, F1 cars now use tires with TREAD. They had to do something to SLOW them down. Everything about an F1 car is High Tech. From what I understand they can actively change the suspension setup from the pits for every single corner on the track. NASCAR's answer to that is Staggerd tires. The rest of the world is blowing past the US in terms of technology and improvements for cars and almost all of those improvements come from Racing. F1 is the proving ground for Engine, Transmission, and all other automotive technology in the Future. NASCAR is the proving ground for all the Technology of the Past.

  2. Re:That movie looks so awful on Pentagon Climate Change Author Interviewed · · Score: 2, Insightful

Hit the nail on the head. Anytime anybody makes reference to Independance Day or ID4 I have the immediate response "Worst Movie Ever" Amazing that Will Smith's carrer survived that movie. However, alot of people seemed to like it. To me the first rule of Sci Fi movie making is: If you include anything in your movie that currently exits today (Caugh F/A-18) only show it doing things that it is actually capeable of doing!

  3. No changes in battery Life???? on Battery Development Off The Beaten Path · · Score: 2, Insightful

I am not sure what you mean in that there have been no changes in battery technology. Just because the run times have not changed does not mean there have not been improvements. So 4 years ago we were running on Pentium 400 Processors with 12-13" screens as normal. Now we are running on 2.0-2.8Gig machines with 14-15" screens as normal. With the same or better run times. Not only that, but the batteries are smaller and less expensive. Just because run time has not changed does not mean that the battery technology has not improved. It only means that as the performance of the device using them improved, the battery makers improved the performance enough to keep the run times the same. I think that is an achievement.

  4. Everybody says this is Free! on Mandrakelinux 10 Now Available To All · · Score: 0

"Remember, if you use Mandrakelinux, join the club or buy a box to support them." And "Before downloading our products, we ask for your support by joining the Mandrakelinux Users Club. The Club was created to fund the development of the Mandrakelinux distribution and to pay the salaries of employees who are dedicated to "external" Free Software projects such as the Linux" I always hear so much talk about Linux being FREE. FREE to download FREE to use, FREE FREE FREE. Well, if you have to pay for the boxed edition or join the club and pay to download then it is not exactly FREE now is it. Then Mandrake says that the club Fees pay the cost of developers and employees dedicated to providing FREE Software. WTF I just thought you said it was FREE and now I have to pay to support the developers. I thought they were doing this for FREE and were independantly wealty and did not need an income source. Or I thought they were doing this in their spare time because they loved doing it so much. So really, what is the difference now between Microsoft and Linux. Sure, Microsoft Products cost more but at least their Users and developers don't lie to you about the cost of the product. Can you imagine your outrage if Microsoft suddenly said, Use our product, it is FREE. Oh, sorry, but you have to join our CLUB and give us your personal information and PAY club dues in order to use it. What a bunch of BS. Admittedly I am a MS user, admin, developer. But I always download and evaluate the latest Linux product. I spent a few hours or days playing with it trying to learn so new things and see if it is ready to replace any of my Microsoft products. Thus far it has not. What I find hilarious is how all Linux users were so proud of their FREE software and how they bash anybody that has to PAY for software. Now that the companies that produce it (Red Hat, Mandrake, etc) realize that there is no supportable business model when they offer FREE software and that they will ultimately fail unless they charge something, their users complain about HOW MUCH IT COSTS! Guess what fellas, NOTHING IS FREE!!!! It costs somebody something to make it. Be it time or money, somebody has to pay for it. At least Microsoft does not Lie to you about that.

  5. Vonage Rocks on New York State Classifies Vonage As Phone Company · · Score: 5, Informative

Personally I hope this does not signal an end to their business model. I have had Vonage service for 6 months and I could not be more pleased. Thier billing and reporting is awesome. I can actually log into their site to view all incoming and outgoing calls. I can download my voicemail to a wave file. Meaning I can check it anywhere there is a computer with internet access and a sound card. But here is the real shocker. I had a problem sending faxes through their system. Called them up. Had a short wait time ~30 Seconds. They had my problem fixed within 5 minutes. Not only that but they actually asked about what hardware and software I was using to add it to their knowledge base. I was floored. Try having that type of service from Southwestern HELL. Not to mention saving $30.00 a month and having way more features. And the voice quality is excellent.

  6. Hotmail is FREE on Microsoft Will Sell Whitelist Services For Hotmail · · Score: 1

Does anybody not realize that Hotmail is a free service! How can you complain about a Free service recieving spam mail. How can you sue somebody or even enforce an Anti-Spam law when you do not even pay for it. So in reality, the money for any infraction should go to Microsoft. I know they offer a pay service as well, but that is so your account is not frozen after 30 days of inactivity. If you are using a Hotmail or Yahoo account for your primary business email then you really need help. I always am very suspecious of people that provide me a contact email with Yahoo, Hotmail or any other Free type mail provider.
