    I don't think anesthetic is typically used in infant circumcision. Infants can't talk, but their screaming indicates it probably hurts a lot. And the terror is probably worse than the pain.

    You seem to be confused. If you think you are horny about something, then you are horny about something. If you think you like something, then you like something. These conditions exist so far as you think they exist, and need no other objective consideration.

    The earlier models that survive, survive because they are useful. Newtonian mechanics is simpler than general relativity and is highly accurate for many applications. There are other, obsolete and obscure models which we only hear about in passing (eg phlogiston, aether, Lamarkian evolution, miasma, classical elements) since they aren't as useful.

    This article was totally gripping and enthralled me from beginning to end. I should've been doing analysis on my pump temperature data, but thanks to this article, I guess my report will be late. I'm so glad that I subscribed to the NYT, because David Streitfeld really knows how to do his research and produce an accurate and compelling report. It changed my life; I'll never look at online testimonials the same ever again.

    Because "recklessly" is a very subjective and arbitrary and good laws have some reasonable criteria for when they are triggered. In practice, that means the cops look for certain behaviors like texting while driving, and the courts punish people based on what kind of behaviors people were doing.

    If only 1% of rapes result in pregnancy (rather than 5%), does that make it more ok to force the pregnancy on the victim? What about 0.1%? At what point do the rights of the women not matter any more?

    There's a difference between evil and crazy. When unemployment is high, it is cheap to hire additional help, but it might prove cheaper to abuse the employees you have who are too desperate to quit. It's sort of a positive feedback system.
