    Get firefox and run it from your home directory. Lean, mean, stand-alone and fucking faster than Mozilla 1.4. I should says that 1.6 and 1.7RC are faster than 1.4. If they continue growing at this rate, IE is out of the game.

    It's seeming more unlikely as the arguments drag on, but if a Hafnium bomb could be built, it is thought that a golf ball sized chunk could produce the energy equivalent of 10 tons of conventional explosives
    Forgive me for this, but can't resist saying this. This forms the perfect story for next Bond movie. Evil rich industrialist trying to destroy London. James Bond, along with his sexy sidekick Woonda, saves the day.

    Well, thanks for the insightful info. Guess I just got carried away. You cannot compare a guy's drug problem to his computer problem. Addiction to drugs only shows that he's weak-willed. Writing viruses shows that he's not disciplined, or, he's watching matrix too many times :). You are right, a period of community service is going to help him. But not a short period of one month or year. I'd say, the period should be of (no of effected computers)*(2) days. That should keep him out of mischief for nearly 5-8 years. Because, when a drug-addict says clean for a month, there's always chance of his getting back to business on the 31st day. If he stays clean for 5 years, it's difficult to get back. Or, when a security vulnerability is detected, those rich bastards at M$ should pay a reward to the guys who fix it, and fix it effectively in a short time.

    Well, not everyone who works for M$ isn't evil. But, I do believe that all the top-brass is evil and against F/OSS. Microsoft sure recognized Firefox's superiority and guess what, they are pissed.

    If this guy is able to admit openly on a Microsoft website that he doesn't even use IE, maybe developers should listen to him.
    If this guy admits openly on a M$ website, may be he'll be fired in a couple of days for the most trivial reason - something like peeing while on duty. Microsoft supporting F/OS is not a bottom-up approach, it's top-down. The support should begin right from the top - Bill Gates, Craig Mundy and other fellas. Even if Longhorn and Firefox are made for each other, can a free-software use a non-free software and still remain free?

    Yeah, Mozilla should start using Microsoft technologies. It's too damn boring that I can block pop-ups in my Firefox and I don't have any spyware on my system. Hey Mozilla developers, use IE engine for Mozilla and make my day.

    He should be punished to the maximum extent permitted by law - I don't care under which law. People who can't respect computers should not be allowed to (ab)use them. If he screws up his computer, it's his problem. But the moment he screws up boxes over internet, he's got to be punished hard. The punished should be harsh so that no other individual will ever attempt to write a virus. Microsoft users are already suffering with poor quality, tech-support and other stuff, guess they don't need viruses.

    Why? Just because you are unable to install Linux and make it run? Because you are a poor sod stuck with windows and suffering from spyware, unwanted pop-ups, free viruses, gift trojans and applications that crash your box 3 times an hours? Wake up dude. It's the best cost-effective solution. I'd rather spend a couple of hours installing linux than spending both time and money to install 'patches'.

    One word - Linux. Been using it for 2 years now. No spyware, no virus/worms/trojans, no shit!!! If you use your computer just to browse net and/or for porn, switch to linux today. Sure it take a couple of hours to know your way around it, but believe me,once you get the damn thing running, there is no looking back. Forget windows, it's for kids and lamers.

    And I'd give my right arm for a better box. I'm not complaining about 600MHz processor. My only problem is that the newer versions of Linux distros fail to detect my vintage hardware. A few days back, Fedora was refusing to detect my 14" monitor. So, I borrowed my friend's monitor and I had to do a lot of "trial and error" configuration to make it work. It finally worked for "Generic LCD display - 1024x768" and it won't work with Generic CRT settings. All I want is new hardware. If Linux can detect my hardware, problem solved. I'd work on my 600MHz for another 10 years :-)

    I guess they'll ship them to India or any other developing African country. Better throw them to India, I'll pick 'em up at discount prices. Considering the fact that I've been using a 600MHz Celeron for the past 4 years without any major upgrades (well, just one, added 128MB RAM to my original 64MB ), I should get a biiiiig discount.

    if the worm writer is caught, can he be held at least partially responsible for any deaths that occured during this outage?
    The authors write such code with malicious intent, no doubt, but how can a programmer foresee any deaths? That too, the ones caused because of a virus? He should be punished to the maximum extent permitted by the law, but shouldn't be charged with slaughter or murder. When someone write a piece of code, good or bad, it is almost impossible to foresee it's use other than the one it's written for.

    Same here. But the hidden benifits of Micro$oft products come with a cost. I use windows for an average of one hour per day and 15 minutes of it goes to updating Norton and "protecting my PC against viruses". Crap. If Microsoft builds their own anti-virus, Gates can get much richer. Oh yeah, you got to buy the anti-virus seperately at a mind-blowing price, but hey, the virus comes for free!!!
