Directly following the wishes of your constituency (misspelled?) on every issue is one of many approaches leaders in a representative government can take.

    For example:
    1) I state my beliefs. People elect me because of them. As such, I am obligated to vote what I feel is right.

    2) I'm elected to serve my constituency. As such, what I want does not matter. I am obligated to vote what the majority would want, regardless of my personal feelings.

    3) I was elected by those in my district to serve them - as such, I should vote what I feel will benefit them the most, regardless of what I feel is right, or they want.

There are any number of philosophies that can be used by an elected official. It looks like Ron Paul is going with #1. Regardless of the approach, he was elected, and the majority felt he would best serve their interests. They could have elected him believing any of those philosophies.

Perhaps you should learn a little more about addiction before you spew this crap out.

Addiction is based on a genetic predisposition. Some people have it; some people don't. A good test for if someone is addicted is if the consequenses outweigh the benefits, yet the behavior persists.

For example, there are people who drink a beer every day, yet can quit should they need the money, or if their family starts to suffer because of it.

Then again, there are alcoholhics, who are unable to stop even when it costs them their spouse, children, job, and respect of their peers. That is addiction. Is knocking back some booze worth the loss of everything else in your life you hold dear? To an addict, the answer is yes.

The same thing can hold true for an MMORPG. Lots of people play them, and have no problems. In some cases, the game fills a need, and is rather enjoyable (and thus hard to give up, because there is no good reason to.) However, for some people, the game _is_ addictive. People have jost their jobs, and their families, because they could not get away from the screen. That is addiction.

Anything that fills a need can be addictive. Some things are naturally more addictive than others. However, whether you end up an addict is largely based on genetics. Come from a long line of alcoholics? You probably should not drink, as you are predisposed towards alcohol addiction.

This is simply not the way companies work.

They are for-profit - as such, their goal is to make as much profit as possible. While raising prices _may_ make them more money, that is not necessarily the case. If Krispy Kreme started charging $100/donut, they would make less money due to the customers you lose.

Keeping the prices the same, while cutting costs, makes a great deal more sense. Profit goes up, and you don't have customers leave because of price hikes. Plus, it leaves you in a better position when your competition decides to drop the price.
