Programmer doesn't get sufficient time to perform maintenance and refactoring (*) That's where the root cause of most bugs lies.
(*) necessary because of changing and/or growing specs, or even because programming is not a straight path from start to end; these things should be considered as a fundamental part of the development process
Meanwhile, at Slashdot headquarters: "Wow, the comment statistics have really been going up lately." "Must be related to those 25% of users that are using beta now. They seem to like it. Keep pushing it!"
StackExchange, can you please build us a new Slashdot?
You have most of the code already in place (comments need to be hierarchically structured, though). You have the servers. Most importantly, you have lots of sincere users with a background in programming, physics, etcetera.
If this continues, I suspect that another company will take over.
Perhaps the Stackexchange guys (known for Stackoverflow) can come up with a nice forum for us... They already have most of the code in place in the form of a Q/A board. And they have the community (programmers, physicists, electrical engineers, etc.)
I had my Bluetooth A2DP connection destroyed by a bad Android update.
We just need an OS that is truly open. Like FirefoxOS.
One more reason to develop for iOS and not for Android.
Google should hire people to do the same for Android.
Now that the NSA can't store and process user's private data, they have to do _something_ with those datacenters, right?
Or they have a position in options.
It’s important to note that DoS attacks do not affect people’s bitcoin wallets or funds.
Unless of course the exchange rates start dropping because of a declining confidence in the currency.
But who will then collect all the money for those TLD's?
She saw me naked and tied to the bed, you insensitive clod.
Would you bring somebody else's camera into your own house?
Because we want more ads! That's why!

That isn't too bad if science turns out to be an n-dimensional projection of an infinite-dimensional object.
That's why we need a good moderation system for blogs.
That and, _ON_ those blogs we need good discussion boards.
5 million pounds can pay for at least 50 man-years.
That ought to be enough to develop a robotic vacuum cleaner, I'd say.
The platform is so locked-down, you can't even run malware.
Agreed. A computer should be able to perform any sequence of instructions the user can come up with. Otherwise it is not functioning as advertised.
Or put the unit in a (microwave) oven.
They should make beta opt-in, instead of opt-out. For ALL users.
Plus, Dice thinks they can reach a broader audience.
It isn't going to happen this way...
We like slashdot because of the audience. Change the audience, and slashdot is over.

The worst part of it is: M$ will outlive Slashdot...
If this continues, I suspect that another company will take over.

I can see that work.
Or they could just upload all requests to wikileaks...
I was going to make an honest, on-topic comment.
But... screw it.
Fuck Beta!
