"I guess this means Best Buy doesn't hate their customers after all."
No, they do hate them and that's why they are moving to online process,
they hate their customers who buy stuff, send rebate and retrun them; "eveil customers"
By moving everything online like Staples Easy Rebate they can track if the person hasn't returned the item.
That's why I use Windows Media Center edition 2005, bought a $50 200GB HD and $50 TV card, put them in old AMD 1700+ computer and I pay no monthly fee.
You guys are completely cluless.
1. You hook up your PC to TV using TV-out, you dumbass, who said you use PC monitor?
That's same thing with TIVO, and MCE still has better interface. Get a clue, get a head, and also you will need brain in it.
2. Extremely Powerful system to it's knees! I must either have the powerful system in the world which is AMD Athlon XP 1700+, nVidia GF4 TI4400 (MX would do) and 512MB PC2100 ram. Whoa, I didn't know my PC was better than "extremely powerful system" that is taken to its knees!
I am not comparing Japan to USA, I am just saying that
what the person I replied to says isn't too true,
and remember in Japan most of the people live in suburbs of big cities,
unlike USA where there is large population in suburbs but as well in small towns.
If he lives in place where you have to take one car train to get, then yes.
If you live in Tokyo or Osaka you can get 100Mbps optical directly into your unit for $50 a month.
Though, optical isn't as widely available as the 26Mbps Yahoo! Japan ADSL BB service which is around $30.
