More to my own point: if the car's going to drive itself, why not take mass transit?
because most of north ameria refuses to take lessons from other counteries regarding how to make a functional mass transit system?
also the whole stereotype that mass transit is for people who can't afford cars, etc.
a good compromise would be automated driving on freeways. maybe dedicate half the freeway to automated cars and leave the rest for normal cars, gradually phasing out the normal vehicles. this would allow things such as slipstreaming (which isn't feasable with human reflexes) that would significantly boost milage, not to mention allow the driver to do something else.
Here is a revolutionary thought... Why not use both together?
could be dimishing returns.
hybrids work by recapturing energy while stopping.
inteligent driving systems try to minimize stopping.
while they could be combined, it would be tricky to balance the driving technique to make the most out of both systems, being as they have almost opposite requirements for optimal use.
yes, but cruise control is often better for those of us who drive on realitively flat land. it also gives me one less thing i need to pay attention to, allowing me to better avoid the idiot slaloming down the highway doing nearly twice the speed limit.
not completely mutually exclusive, but diminishing returns.
putting one or the other in an otherwise ordinary car would result in significant gains, but putting both in would provide a lesser additional gain.
the million-gallon question would be if putting both in would provide enough of a benefit to be worth the additional cost over having one or the other.
this isn't regarding the camcorder copies, which i believe there are laws regarding already.
this is "bribe the manager/projector operator and copy directly off the reels", which gives pretty stupendous quality (remember, it's meant to look good after having been expanded onto a 30' screen).
Bribing a theatre employee for access to the print to make a high-quality transfer is a whole different thing, and works as well in either the US or Canada.
that's what i was refering to and that's what this is (supposedly) supposed to eliminate.
4) How much would it take to bribe a projectionist or theatre manager to allow someone in the theatre, with the equipment, for long enough to do the transfer?
this is why they're getting rid of the previews. you can't bribe them to copy what they don't have.
they're trying to reduce sales. then they can claim that teh ebil PIRAT3S! are stealing everything and convince the government that they need to "modernize" canadian copyright and IP laws.
it's not stupid. it's moderately smart and it seems to be working quite well in the US.
1. i would seem to me (most other people here) that the caption is just a caption. she was dressed as a (possibly drunken) pirate at a Halloween party. that does not imply to me in any manner that she actually is drunk or that there is an alcoholic beverage in that cup.
2. she is not underage by a long shot, so i see no possible way, short of extremely convoluted non-logic, that she could be "promoting underage drinking".
my bank allows PINs of up to 9 numbers, though some old/stupid ATMs have issues with PINs longer than 4 or 5 numbers, hence the reason why most people don't use more than 4.
then request them. at the local library here, there is a form (either paper or online) where you can request books, CDs, etc. you just put in the title and author/artist of whatever it is, along with your library card number. you can even have them inform you (via phone or email) when they get it.
I've gotten a number of moderately obscure books that way.
Posting keys isnt some glamorous civil-rights disobedience its saying "Dude, now I can totally download more hollywood crap now and act righteous!"
lemme ask you, if you're downloading the movie, what the heck do you need a key for? the movie you download will be an DivX or XviD file, not an encrypted disc image.
the keys are for those of us who still like to exercise our fair use/fair dealing rights and want to watch our legally purchased HiDef movies on whatever device(s) we want.
crime: not in this instance, though doing it repeatedly on to a particular person could be construed as sexual harassment or if the target is a minor, it could qualify as "corruption of a minor" or something.
virtual crime : yes
in my definition, virtual crime would be anything against the rules (laws) of the virtual world, and thus a banable/virtual jail offence.
virtual jailing would be an interesting concept to add. as sort of a temp ban, slap them into a virtual jail with other rulebreakers. maybe add the ability to attempt to escape, with suitable consequences if caught.
The hex string in question is no longer a valid AACS key
it is perfectly valid for any disc that doesn't have it revoked, i.e. any disc pressed before may.
i would bet that 90% of currently-in-store discs will work with it and will for sometime to come, and by the time that it doesn't work for a considerable percent of discs, there will likely be a new key flying around.
creative commons is not really full copyleft as you describe. it allows for more fine-grained control over what can be done with the work, rather than the all-or-nothing choice with copyright/copyleft, which is what i like about it.
they'd want to use the nd or No Derivative Works licencing. it would allow free sharing of it, which they want, but still allows them to keep a club handy for use on anyone who tries to edit it to put things out on context or something.
are the federal republicans and the state republicans really the same party?
as there is a similarly interesting bit in Canadian politics here in saskatchewan. the provincial government is NDP, but the federal NDP doesn't have a single seat here (all conservative, except for 1 liberal).
this is as the provincial NDP and federal NDP aren't the same party. they have the same name and are both mid-left, but they quite often don't quite agree with each other.

awww, cmon....hasn't anyone seen the southpark movie??
yes, everyone has, and (almost) everyone is tired of that joke.

Whatever happened to the Golden Rule
the golden rule became "he who has the gold makes the rules", which near-perfectly describes the state of the us government in this matter.

Why? SSL protects you from MITM attacks and provides strong encryption & authentication.

my bank allows PINs of up to 9 numbers, though some old/stupid ATMs have issues with PINs longer than 4 or 5 numbers, hence the reason why most people don't use more than 4.
and what proof is there that the caption has any relation to anything factual?
it's at a Halloween party for $DEITY's sake!
i suppose that a guy dressed as a brain-eating zombie should be charged with "desecration of remains".
The fact that she got drunk and someone snapped a photo is no big deal
and where exactly is there any evidance that she was actually drunk?
i see a plastic cup, which no evidance that there is anything alcoholic in it and she doesn't seem to be drunk in the picture either.

well, a number of laws have exhausted their purpose...
e911 basically just puts up on the operaters screen your location info.
without e911, you can call 911 fine, you just have to tell them where you are, just like it used to be.
i don't particularly see why it is so critical.
In the first strip he talks about how hard it is to kill someone with a .22. A .22 is used in the Virginia Tech massacre.

i'm pretty sure both of his guns were 9mm (approx.
If they are going to press charges, why is the pirate bay still up? Shouldn't the first step be to shut it down?
you generally need to prove charges before issuing a sentence.
