I just learned about this thing called plate tectonics, and boy am I worried that someday the North American shelf might collide with China.
STOP PLATE TECTONICS NOW!
Good greaf... gimme a break. Oh, let's see... it would be what... a few hundred thousand years before that happens. We'll either 1) have the technology to prevent it 2) be using antimatter for power so we won't even need to get power from waves, or 3) will have already killed ourselves off. hhmmm... considering that I would say this is a STUPID F**KING TOPIC.
Alright guys... what did you do with the real Slashdot?!?!?
Let me remind you that Sen. Joseph Leiberman (D) is one of the most censorship hungry individuals in Congress. And who was it that started all the Internet censorship bills that have gone through Congress? Democrats, that's who. Think about it.
Silly frogs are at it again. First they passed that law about all websites (main page) hosted in France have to be in French. Now this. Whatever. I say let them bellow and moan and shake their fingers at Yahoo! and whom ever else they are mad at this week. The rest of the world knows it's silly - maybe someday they'll understand the futility of their position and come around. Until then I ask but one thing of all French people, and Parisians in particular: TAKE A BATH!
The comment about visual recognition is not quite accurate. We already have recognition technology that can distinguish between a school bus and mobile missile trucks (which, depending on the contry of origin, can look very much like a school bus). The possibility for error does exist, of course... it always will. But technology will always make advances and reduce that error margin.
I'm not advocating war or the technology behind it. However, this technology does make more sense to me than what we currently have. It does make war less personable... but then again, it's war we're talking about here, not ice cream socials and croquet matches in the back yard.
There was a civil rights activist during the 60's (I can't remember his name so please forgive me) what was big on getting minorities to vote. He once said, "If you don't vote you don't count." I agree with that. You forefit your right to complain or dislike anything about an administration if you do not participate in it's election, either for or against.
That is all.
Used to be people had to wash their clothes by hand. Now we have these things called washers and dryers. Do you know how a washer works... the mechanics and electronics? How about the dryer and it's heating elements and termerature control system? Do you have to know all that to use the damn things? NO! But that doesn't mean that there are no longer people out there that know the inner workings of washers and dryers, and if one malfunctions it can't be repaired.
I'd like to quote from Voltaire now: "Common sense is not that common." Remind you of a particular article? Maybe... THIS ONE! And what the hell does Marx have to do with this? Christ on a krutch! I swear...
yeah, but by the looks of your web page I bet you would have found it rather topical if Jon "RPGeek" Katz had written about anime.
If I had to choose who would rule the world, RPGers or anime-kiddies, I'd choose the anime-kiddies. Their dimmness makes them easy to manipulate... RPGers would waste the rest of the world's time by arguing over game mechanics and dice rolls.
Besides, any intelligent person knows that Harn (www.columbiagames.com) is the only good RGP.;-)
In this little "war" I will always have to side with the KDE folks. 1) I've used both GNOME and KDE and it's clear that KDE is the better product. That's the bottom line, even though I did put it at the top.;-)
2) RMS reminds me of one of those people that protests [insert your favorite target here] by splashing red paint on [target] or by driving a spike through [target] or other such actions that do nothing to promote your cause in a way that draws attention to your argument. Instead he draws attention to the war rather than to any valid argument. And that forgiveness thing... puh-leese.
3) I'm starting to view the GPL in the same light as the Communist Manifesto. Granola eattn' hippie socialists with an ax to grind against a perceived conspiracy by an establishment to undermine the people, so they start a revolution to save the people by declaring that the people own everything and since they stood up for the people they own everything too, but with a controlling interest.
Whatever...
I don't get the point of this. He goes down there and blatnetly acts beligerent to the cops then complains about being arrested. I mean, I really don't understand all this. These people are supposed to be drawing attention to their "causes" but all they end up doing is drawing attention to the confusion and chaos they cause for the innocent citizens who just want to go to work then go home without being delayed. They're not making any convincing statements with all this crap.
And to the person who made the earlier comment about how most/.ers are Young Republicans, well I'm not one of those. I'm worse - I'm a Libertarian.
I have worked for some of the larger networking companies in the country (Sprint, MCI, TNS/PSINet) and I can tell you that such access lists are used quite often. By default you should block all RFC1918 address space or else you're a complete and total moron and you should go work at McDonalds. However when it comes to access lists you have to be careful and make them too big or too many of them. You just have to be creative is all. It's not that hard. It's just common sense. However, it was Voltaire that said, "Common sense is not that common." Later. Mk.
If you have intent to do harm, whether it be to ones body or property (computer), and you act upon that intent then you are a criminal. Doesn't matter if you use a lead pipe or a computer virus, you're still a criminal. Period. Get a rope... we're gonna have ourselves a hang'n! That goes for DoS, virii, active hacking to gain entry, and the destruction or theft of data from systems entered. And one more thing... FREE KEVIN? My ass! FUCK KEVIN! He's a criminal. He got caught! Get over it!
As an employer I should not be told by the government that I have to supply furnishings to employees that will only be used in their homes. Telecommuting is not a right, it is a privilage. It's a two way road: the employee can be at home, with the fam, not stuck in traffic, and in an environment that they are comfortable in and I (the employer) do not have to spend as much on workstations and other materials that would be required for an employee to be in the shop every day. It cuts costs on both sides. Now, for the govt to stick their noses into this crosses the line. Screw you Uncle Scam! I know how to run my business better than you do - just take a look at your own past business practices and you'll see that I'm right. Assholes...
NSI = Numb-nuts Screwing-up the Internet
on
NSI to be RBL'ed?

To any NSI grunt that may read this: you jack-asses are sore loosers. You take a government contract and expect to be able to claim that the information you obtained during that contract actually _belongs_ to you? Kiss my ass you f**king morons! That's my tax dollars you're talking about. That data belongs to me and every other American that uses the internet. A lot of people, including myself starting back when there was no public access to the 'net, have busted their asses to make the 'net what it is. For you to pull the kind of stunts that you have lately is a disgrace to us all, but more so to yourself. I really do hate socialism, but fair is fair. Cooperate or get off the bus!!!
Maybe those 650 people filtering you have the right idea! I have the right to disagree with any opinion and I also have the right to ignore it. If someone wants to ignore what I have to say then so what - big freaking deal! That's their right. And, yes, flamers are a problem but the only purpose they serve is to piss other people off and to reafirm my faith in Darwinism. What a cry baby...
Yes, I saw one of those immersion cooled Cray's at Ft. Meade when I was in the Air Force. Pretty cool stuff, but it was a slightly modified design for "specific computing purposes". It had small windows on the side of it so you could see the circuit boards immersed in the coolant and bubbles going up along the board.
Okay, so I have this car and I want to get better performance out of it. So, I buy a customized EPROM for it, that gives me 5 more miles to the gallon, and a more efficient air intake system that improves my gas milage even more and gives it a bit better responce on the peddal... but I shouldn't do that. I should just keep it like it was from the factory, because I should be a mindless robot like you. Never question, never wonder, never learn. Knowledge it power, power corrupts. Study hard, be evil!
