However to say that by default it was indexing the entire C: drive is erroneous. The default behavior is to index user files in "doc and settings" and then your outlook files after you open that program.
Well given that the two parts work hand in hand I was under the impression that it went without saying. I can't bring myself to say that WSUS 2.0 worked fine because the two parts are interdependent (unless you just wanted to run WSUS 2.0 and not have any clients actually use it).
Regardless it took MS way too long to fix the issue. It occurred for three full months before MS fixed the issue.
And your "not logging off" variant does not work if you've configured the GPOs for the WU Client correctly... What do you mean? Are you meaning the difference between allowing the user the choice of when to reboot or making that decision for them?
Well lets be completely honest. WSUS will only save you if you are running v3.0 and have your update client up to date. Prior to that (month and a half ago) WSUS was the problem. This issue manifested itself in 99% CPU utilization by the SVCHost parent process.
However if you want to avoid patch Tuesday then just leave your computer on and logged off over night. If you come in and boot up your machine (or unlock it for that matter) and try to get your critical updates at the same time as everyone else in the company... The fire up the task manager and enjoy the show.
Of all the cons that people have mentioned, the only one that really makes me sad is the iPhone's lack of copy and paste. It seems like highlighting text should be pretty straightforward and at least they could have some sort of pop up options menu if you hold your finger on some text for more than 2 seconds or something.
From TFA:
"Railguns are also portrayed in the "Stargate" TV series and in many video games, including "Halo 2.""
Halo2? What that article really needed was a Quake II shout out. Damn kids...
Like it matters... None of this changes anything as it pertains to the fact that a majority of people could care less. We need something akin to fairness of use for people's noggins.
Fairness in the media just makes people feel better, enabling you to say "Hey, I tried..."
Well this form of "donation" sounds better than the previously reported on where you did not get anything for your money. I would buy "one" of these. I wonder if there will be any form of choice as to which country gets your laptop.
MS does discontinue support but the updates and whatnot are still available after they discontinue support. They just stop putting up new updates. You can "update" a fresh 98 install up to the point where they discontinues support and this seems to be what you are worried about.
The most amazing thing to me is how slow some people will allow their computers to become, mostly due solely to spyware. My aunt asked me why it took her computer like 7 minutes to start up. I said it could be the bonzai buddy, three IE search bars and gator, but I couldn't be sure...
Hopefully XP SP2 will have some effect in helping to keep people from runing so much of the crap.
I agree with you, but DCA is actually located in Arlington, VA.
Be nice to Lucas, he's misunderstood. However this does raise a good point in that this article needs to be tagged "Seaquest DSV."

Perhaps you should have told the WSUS development team that the widespread WSUS CPU utilization issues could be solved by you and your specific installation of WSUS... http://blogs.technet.com/wsus/archive/2007/05/15/s rvhost-msi-issue-follow-up.aspx

RIP Mr. Vonnegut Time will be stuck for a few of us today.
