On a very interesting note, apparently 10 out of the top 20 countries with the lowest death rate are in the
Middle East and North Africa. No Western country appears in the top 20. All this according to the links above based on the CIA Factbook. Time to throw out all those preconcieved notions.
Why don't Americans vote on a weekend? Wouldn't that increase voter turnout?
I have always wondered what advantage is gained in voting on a Tuesday. I see
two major disadvantages;low voter turnout (as mentioned earlier)and lost productivity
in the workforce. Why is there no movement to have this changed?
Well, earlier today I learnt how to use XSS vulnerabilities to hack websites and the Iranian President
launches a blog written in PHP that accepts user input.
Guess I have to test all this knowledge on something. Maybe I will find
AOL has already started expanding on this ad-based model and has beaten Yahoo in the media game.
They are working with Mark Burnett in a reality adventure show that is hosted at
http://www.aol.com/goldrush
They already have some decent publicity for this show based on the marquee production
company working on it. Whether this is going to be the future of television
is still for the jury to decide
This IPO reminds me of a swahili proverb that says Chema chajiuza lakini kibaya chajitembeza - The good sells itself while the bad just wanders.
When marketing expenses are 50% of all your expenditure and you have been in business for some 5 odd years only, there is a big problem. You may bring in more subscribers now but if you do not invest in enriching their experience, they will flitter away very quickly.
The two links provided give an in-depth introduction of the Cell architecture. The IBM link also adds superb material for developers about the Cell Compiler while the Sony link adds stuff on how to approach programming for the Cell. They also have citations to the technical papers presented at ISSCC.
A definite must read for those interested in computer architecture and the Cell processor in general.
2. Google didn't buy Orkut, it was created by a Google employee.
Not quite, the aforementioned employee(Orkut Buyukkokten) actually started Orkut when he was a grad student at Stanford. Google adopted the project after hiring him.
The reasons the PPC did not become the x86 killer it was predicted to be are largely business-based rather than grounded purely on technical merit. The PPC is superior in a number of areas like SIMD however, IBM did not market it to Microsoft in the same way that Intel pushed the x86 for Windows. IBM placed its bets instead on the lesser(but very capable) players, Apple and Linux, who did not achieve enough market share.
However, the PPC is long from dead. IBM has been strongly cementing the PPC as the ideal platform for embedded computing in an effort to displace other commonly used processors such as MIPS and ARM. The biggest example of this is that both the PS3 and Xbox 360 will feature what are essentially PPC upgrades. Another good example is the embedding of PPCs in
Xilinx FPGAs to provide a complete SoC solution.
Well then, you better send me that clue stick because while you may disparage the importance of the constitution, some of us still remember that whenever Congress has violated the constitution, those laws have been overturned. Balance of power my friend, major part of what has made the US what it is today.
...the new technology doesn't seem to be privacy intrusive...
Give me a break. How can this be possible when the approach suggests using multiple tests rather than one, ranging from analyzing dated cookies, IP addresses and Flash Shared Objects?
Their approach seems to be common-sense. I believe most sites worth some salt do not use just one metric. Maybe if someone can get a hold of the research paper and post it, then we can see if their implementation is really revolutionary.
Another problem is that the guys, both the authors and the researchers, have not actually tested their methodology on scalable site.
Premature elation? Let us see the paper and decide.
I think that on a higher level the First-to-File scheme is advantageous as it clears some red tape BUT only if it is strongly supported by a clear definition of "prior art".
It also helps to remember what the constitution says:-
Basically Congress shall enact legislation "to promote the progress of Science and useful Arts, by securing for limited times to authors and inventors the exclusive right to their respective writings and discoveries"
Therefore, even if you are the first to file, according to the constitution you still have to prove that you are the one who invented it. The USPTO is required to enforce this standard and anything less is illegal.
I agree whole heartedly. VLC is the best player out there. It can pretty much play any mmedia extension with optimum resolution(especially if you add the divx and xvid codecs). Playing and navigating DVDs is also seamless(as long as you have a DVD decoder!).
I also like the way it integrates a streaming server that you can easily set up. It comes in a compact form with a well thought out and stripped down GUI with intuitive menus. However, this simplicity does not come stand in the way of the complex features behind it such as extending the GUI(if thats what you like, not me), capturing devices, keeping video bookmarks and navigating DVD menus. To top everything off, almost all commands have keyboard shortcuts(customizable)-I don't use the mouse this days.
I believe it is the killer media app. You should definitely check it out. Hey, even the Google guys thought it was good enough to base their video section of it.
You have to realize though that there is a difference between judicial conservatism and socio-political conservatism. O'Connor is/was a judicial conservative who held a lot of centrist views that reflect the views of most Americans. The president will be doing a great disservice to the nation by appointing someone who does not fit here mould.
The device is actually based on a design from AllGo Embedded Systems, a Bangalore based company. Check it out here

Bet you can't max my Linux box. You should install this module that defuses fork bombs

Shouldn't they also crawl through something like the urban dictionary which will have ten times more slang definitions?
Well, you could also watch the old episodes of La Femme Nikita for free
in their entirety, on AOL's broadband TV channel In2TV
Could you indicate the country in question in your summaries for topics such as this one before posting?
I have noticed this is not done many a times and can be confusing.
Damn right, the illest m*f*ka in a cardigan sweater

Good luck figuring what all this UNICODE stands for.But you just have to love their logos
"Mac OS X Leopard, Hasta la Vista, Vista"
"Mac OS X Leopard, Introducing Vista 2.0"
Now that is what I call saying a "more" with "less" :)

FYI, it is "I'M RICH BIATCH!!!". Quite a big difference homey.

Dude, who is puff daddy :)
You are so out of the times dog.

This is comparing apples vs oranges.
Are you sure that you want to say this?
Comparing apples vs oranges is no longer considered valid :)
There is no way he could be serious. That was posted by Drew Curtis (started fark.com). Read between the lines.
